I think this Vette has Ferrari envy.

Take an STI and put the money that you would need to buy a corvette into is, and then you would be able to run circles around a c6.
Here's what I don't get: Who does he think is gonna be impressed?
I mean, anyone that is likely to be impressed by a "Ferrari" is also likely to know what a feckin Corvette looks like!

06wrx4me...That's why I spent $8900 on a LT1 6 speed C4. The $23K I saved over an STI buys a lot of capability as long as I don't spend it on walnut dash inserts
If it wasn't for the fact that I'd never get laid, I might plunk down $800 on a 1st gen eclipse and THEN spend the $8900 I put into my C4 Vette into it. Even worse, I've considered transplanting my LT1 with a GT42 equiiped 4g63. On the plus side, I'd loose 150 lbs off the nose and pick up 300 horsepower. The downside would be all the gold chain/waxxer/medallion wearing/satin jacket wearing/ too tall-flat brimmed ball cap wearing 50 year old loosers giving me ****. I guess that means I should do it. Never mind, I just answered my own question.

What have you done to your C4? Any pics?
Explanation to salvage some respect for Vettes
Agreed about the money difference. Hopfully when I'm 50, I can afford what I really want, but for now I've got my c4 and the wrx wagon for family duties. I don't have pics of mine on this computer, but here's it's twin (except for the wheels). From my original point of $8900, my 1st stage was double adjustable coilovers to the front, the bushings, welded my my own dual 3" exhaust for it from summit 3" bends, added the 13" baer brakes (similar to the factory j55 13" option), got the 32mm front bar off of a z07 car, and the bought a $75 program called tunercat to remap my factory computer. It made 291 at the wheels with a cooler thermostat and a bit of tuning. Stock weight is 3290 w/ the zf 6 speed and the dana44 rear end (same as the viper). I've got the stock 22lb 9.5: wheels on all 4 corners w/ 285 Kuhmo's at the moment, but there's room for 315's on 11's on all 4 corners when I can afford wheels. I had a realistic additional $3100 into it at that point. Turbo cars are so much cheaper to make power from initially, but the handling is great.
The new engine is on a stand in my livingroom at the moment. factory block and crank, lunati rods, mild Comp cam/ported factory heads/ and a bump in compression will net a realistic 410whp-hopefully more with a set of our light pistons and low drag rings (I work at Wiseco). With machine work, I've got $4k into it. A new generation of Air Flow Research heads is about out that I'm hoping to add before I put it back in the car-that should net an easy stone reliable pumpgas 450+ whp. I gutted the worn out interior including the AC and heater and am replacing it will a full cage that extends to the front and rear suspension. That will get the the weight down into the 3000 range with driver. At this point, it's still street legal. I'll be into it for a total of $17,500. It will keep up with a new z06 in every respect with these mods...if not beat it. I may try to put some sort of defroster back in it as I drive it all year. Even in the snow.
The killer mod over the next year is going to be the detroit diesel tv81 thumper turbo ($750). There's a ton of room for it now that I pulled the heater/ac unit off the firewall. It flows 125lbs of air (enough to support 1200hp), but will be dialed back considerably to run on pump gas..hopefully I can get 92 octane to support 750whp. Ethanol injection is an option. A friend of mine has succussfully integrated megasquirt into the factory computer to fuel it...so I'll probably copy his system w/ loads of trick features. The fun part is all this is less than $2500 if you can weld. Which puts my total investment at $20K. There's quite a few cars of all types in Cleveland that trap 135+ and still run on the street a lot. I should be able to run with them in the straights and kill them in the corners.

my point it is, put down the driver, not the car itself.

this vs. that.
To be honest, my wrx wagon can go into any streetcorner or onramp faster than my flexi flyer c4. it's not until I'm halfway through it that the Vette takes a set and powers out. The c5 is has 3 times the torsional stiffness of a c4....hence the need for me to put the full cage in my c4. But, overall bang for the buck is good. My wrx wagon is somewhat famous in Cleveland for pouring through high speed on/off ramps faster than other cars with judgement impaired pilots. When Subaru added 180 lbs to the wrx structure over the standard my99-ish imprezza wagon, that's what they really were trying to achieve. The ability to put each foot down over potholes and bumps without disrupting the drift balance. If I ever get that feel out of the Vette (rather than grabbing the head of a rattlesnake), I'll be one bad mf'r.
