How much should a wheel bearing replacement cost?
 

I just want to know about how much its gonna cost me before I get my estimate tomrrow.

got a used one for 50 bux i think.
new ones are like 100 bux...

i dont remmeber the actual cost of installation, or what was involved in its install, but i dont think its that big of a deal...

it doesnt LOOK too involved.

My mechanic has the car, I dont have the tools or the time to do it myself, I need my car this week, I cant drive my Mom's car until friday, she would freak. I just hope its gonna be about $200, that is what I am expecting.

i think it will be well under 200.

Thanks, I only ask becuase my mechanic is mainly a Volvo mechanic, but I didnt know who else to bring it to. I dont think he will rip me off though since we have been going to him for over 20 years.

Funny you should ask, I have to get one of mine replaced soon too, but have no idea what it'll cost.

my friend had his wheel bearing go out twice on the fronts on his GC8. i think the wheel bearings were something like 40 bucks brand new from monument autoparts. you can have it ordered, and it will arrive in a few hours.

i replaced it at school once, and the knuckle was all messed up with the wheel bearing seized in there and it cost him around $400 for a new knuckle on both sides, one half shaft, and one hub

I'm getting a squealing sound from my right side (haven't confirmed 100% if it's the front or rear wheel, but I'm thinking it's the rear). Here's the info I posted in a different forum:

Ok...so I've had this annoying squealing/squeaking sound coming from my brakes on the right side of my car. I've troubleshooted everything and anything (i.e. sanded the brake pads and rotors in the event of it being a glazing issue, sprayed on anti-squeal spray, inspected the pads and rotors for pebbles, checked to see if the dust shield is rubbing, and all that jazz for the front and rear brakes on the right side). With the help of Mulder, we've pinpointed the problem to what we believe is coming from my rear right parking brake. The problem occurs at low, moderate, and high speeds. The problem seems to be intermittent while crusiing on a straight road but can be triggered when I move the steering wheel to the left by a couple of degrees. Making u-turns or sharper turns at low speeds can also replicate this problem. The noise will go away upon stepping on the brakes and won't come back for a minute or so. But pulling the ebrake will also get rid of the noise. This is why I believe it's the ebrake for some reason. I've taken the rotor off in the rear and examined it closely. Everything seems to be in place with plenty of shoes left. The inside diameter of the rotor where the ebrake shoes make contact looks fine also. My ebrake lever is within OEM specs of 7-8 notches. Obviously by me turning the steering wheel to left and causing load to the rear right wheel area is causing this annoying sound.

So...has anyone even had anything similar to this? If not, any suggestions would be welcome as this sound is driving me INSANE!!!

Why would you replace your wheel bearing with a used wheel bearing?

It was something like $400.
