Hit and Run FTL!

Seems like I've had a string of bad luck in the past week. Last week someone dinged my door pretty bad.

Today, some guy in a BRAND NEW Dodge Caravan swerved into me. I parked on the street (parallel), and went to the market really quick. When I came back to my car, the guy in the car behind me told me he saw everything. I asked him what happened and he told me a black Dodge Caravan with dealer plates swerved into my front fender (he said the guy was texting or on the phone) and just booked it. Another witness was there as well.

What sucks is that I have liability insurance, so this isn't really covered. I went to the police station to file a report, but I doubt anything will happen.

This was on Irving St. in the Sunset.

BTW, yes I know I have RE92s and yes they're really, really used.

woocabin 06-11-2009 11:47 PM

wow that sucks bro.

same thing happened to me but there were cameras so we caught the girl. she was dumb enough to park next to me. hit and park ftl

<3mywagon 06-12-2009 01:14 AM

did you get the witness name number? call your insurance place and get comprehensive. wait like 2-3 weeks and call it in. it's shady but if you are desperate its a option.

ruehl 06-12-2009 01:19 AM

that really sucks but if that is all the damage consider yourself lucky. A similar thing happened to me but it was the whole passenger side of my car. and atleast it didn't destroy your tire and rim too.

Shagon Wagon 06-12-2009 04:45 AM

damn man that sucks... sorry to hear that

Gibz 06-12-2009 05:54 AM

My suby had a hit and run before i could even drive it so i know the frustration. My shoulder was still broke when bryan went and bought my blue sti and was so pissed the first day i could drive it i come out of my house to see my blue bumper was white.. Bonus was bryan works for a paint shop so we got it fixed right away. Sorry that happened to you its never fun to deal with.

johndabrit 06-12-2009 08:09 AM

If it's brand new it prob came from the nearest dodge dealer. I would go report it and inspect all the dodge caravans in that color. Dealer plates are only to be used when a dealer moves the car or test drives. If you can nail them the dealership is responsible and your insurance worries are over

iLoqin 06-12-2009 09:37 AM

Wow bro, that looks ugly. Damn, a lot of subies haven't had much luck this summer so far ><

Yeah this makes me almost happy my scooby has been in Ed's shop for three weeks. So many stories of cars being hit and run, keyed, stolen etc..

-J

JArnaud 06-12-2009 09:59 AM

Same thing happened to me in North Beach. Someone, most likely driving a truck, backed into my car and caved in my hood. I have liability only insurance as well. Some people.

still caved in? time to go CF hood and trunk lid?

JArnaud 06-12-2009 10:12 AM

^^my thoughts exactly...unfortunately I can't even open my hood, its all f'ed up...

johndabrit 06-12-2009 10:15 AM

gotta get in there at some point mang.. sorry to hear about it. I ahve a huge ding on one of my doors and somebody keyed the other side.. it wasnt too deep so it buffed out for the most part. I've definitely been bumper bashed a few times but the car still looks ok. Good look on getting the repairs. Your clip is probably bent.. Best advice i can give you is to have somebody go inside the car and hold the lever to the open position while you wiggle the hood or even bust out a rubber mallet to knock it loose.

woocabin 06-12-2009 02:22 PM

^ i did that to my fender and the paint cracked. heat your paint with a blow dryer before trying.

Or by dealer plates, they meant that license plate size paper that advertises the dealership until they get their license plates, then you can still go to the dealership and ask to see if anyone has come in for body work. Some dealers take the car and send it to their preferred body shop or their own if they have one.

sammae01 06-13-2009 12:08 AM

Bummer dude, hope things work out for you. I had the same problem, on my '06. I searched and searched for a CGM passenger side fender and got beat twice for some. I ended just buying a oem one.

1JavaBlk_in_Sac 06-13-2009 12:56 AM

just do it like my bro...he was able to catch dudes in civic with B20 swap (that hit 'n"run his car in the middle of night) in his Ford F350......now he drives a Suby

Bump.

Some person at work decided to not leave a note after their terrible attempt at parking.

This is the fourth time someone has dinged or crashed into me and not leave a note. Technically probably 10+ times, but those are somewhat minor compared to this.

Heedz 08-14-2012 08:17 PM

People these days disgust me.

dorifto88 08-14-2012 08:58 PM

errrrrr =/

i hope it gets fixed asap

bobb126 08-14-2012 09:02 PM

wow that sucks! i am sorry dude...

by the way are your tires not properly rotated?

edit nvm i dont think theyre directional

iLoqin 08-14-2012 09:11 PM

yea, after a while and the million dings on my car I kinda don't ***** as much as I used to. =\

dSpec 08-14-2012 09:20 PM
yea, after a while and the million dings on my car I kinda don't ***** as much as I used to. =\
Yeah I actually have a ton of scratches and other dings on the car. In fact my rear bumper is a tad chewed up on the corners if you look close from people parallel parking and stuff.

If they at least left a note and apologized I would be satisfied. I wouldn't even have them pay for any damages.

I've taken out maybe 50% of the marks using some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I can't do anything about the scratches that removed the paint.

pho_shizzle 08-14-2012 09:24 PM

I was outside the bank on the phone and caught someone else hitting and running on another persons car. The lady was in a suv parked next to a sedan, then turned her wheel full out and started backing out. She backed right into the other cars rear quarter panel. Good thing they came out of the bank right after, I told them what happened and which car, and they took off after the old lady.

That looks like surface paint transfer. Are there any sections that are through the paint layers? Give me a pm if you are interested in getting that section corrected.

STi-owns-evo 08-14-2012 10:33 PM

Fourth time? Damn, that's some bad luck :/. I guess I should consider myself blessed I've only had 2 major hit and runs since I've owned my car (10 years now). A lot of the damage looks like it could be fixed with a good detail though.

yeah, good call suggesting insurance fraud - a felony - on a public forum frequented by LEOs.

Wow.

corpsewheelie 08-15-2012 09:31 AM

sorry about all the damages man i hope it gets all sorted out. not suggesting you do insurance fraud but have you changed your insurance policy yet for any future damages? i know this sounds weird but it was actually cheaper for me to have full coverage then liability on a couple of my past cars, since then ive just kept getting full coverage.

This!

Unless its the paper plate then if the police actually do work they could probably track them down.

STInavyguy 08-15-2012 09:56 AM

Jeez man...Ill be on the look out for a messed up caravan with dealer plates. I effin well hate people on their phones while driving. I honked at a lady in front of me yesterday for not seeing the light was green for like 10 seconds because she had her phone all the way up to her face, then she looked at me like I was stupid.

She can look at me stupid all she wants, I will effing honk again. Had something similar happen this morning except she wasn't on the phone, she was just a moron. It isn't like it is a SURPRISE that the light turned green.

PEOPLE are the reason why I have full coverage on all my cars.
