Help! Can no longer read or write to ECU!!!!

Buddy wanted to clear a code on his 06 WRX. We have used ECUFlash and Rom Raider ECU editor many times on his car over the last 4 years.

I download his current map, save it. Clear the code. Worked fine.

Find out there is also 1 more code left, so I edit the map and go to upload it.

About 5% of the way through, an error message pops up saying that the ignition was turned off while uploading and memory data may have been lost. This is 5% in, so barely any of the map is on the car. It says to turn off the ignition, and re-upload the map.

So I do that, and not it cannot upload the map anymore. It just says:

SSM2 init
SSM2 init
SSM2 init
SSM2 init
SSM2 init
SSM2 init
SSM2 init
kernal get version
interface close
interface close

I can't even read from the ECU when I try that eitiher. So now his car is stuck with 5% of a map on his car and we can't do anything.

I double checked the tactrix cable, the green connectors, everything. We reset the ECU and it is still doing it.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on???

Edit: also, the fans are not turning on now like they normally do when the car is in test mode, even though the green connectors are connected

I think you might have ran out of memory in the ECU i heard the ECU's have a certain amount of memory and every time you flash a map onto the ECU you are using up that memory. You could have possibly bricked the ecu im not 100% sure though so dont hold it to me.

I'd check the apps log on the computer, there may be a more detailed error message.

I don't think its memory since I've uploaded literally hundreds of maps to my ECU and that hasn't happened to me. He is at about 30. ****kkkkk

Bricked ECU most likely, just like what happened mine. Send it to tactrix for unbricking for like 75-100$ or rancho probably has one.

Who is rancho??

And what would make the ECU bricked? I've done this each time on his car and nothing like this has happened before.

Also, the fans are not turning on as if it is not going into test mode even though the green connectors are connected

any jump or drop in the voltage can cause that. mine was either caused by a computer freeze or some sort of voltage change. rancho cordova near sac, the junk yards up there have ecus you can buy.

Ahh I see. His battery is not that strong right now so that could have been it, it dropped down the voltage while the map was uploading..

Yeah always have a fully functioning battery while doing it :/ it sucks. Yeah it's most likley fried. Options are gonna be tactrix to unbrick it for you or get a replacement from the same year.
