heatshield doesn't fit when helix dp installed?
 

i took off two heatshields (one attatched to the stock dp) when i installed the downpipe on my 04 sti last night. do you guys have any clue how i put them back on? i got the feeling i might have to cut the top one for the bellmouth. do i need any new ones?

It doesn't fit over the helix unless you cut it

you either cut it, or you buy aftermarket heat shields

where can i buy one that fits with the helix in it?

cusco fits, gruppe-s might make one (i think), or there's that chimeny one from speedmonkeee or whatever.

sorry im not much help here. i had mine cut, but i was missing a bracket or something, so i just left it off.

just cut it...it keeps everything looking stock if you ever needed to "pop your hood"

that's the best idea, if you fear that sort of stuff happening. I have helix piping and it's mirror polished...not a good thing when you get your hood popped.

i had it happen to me, and the only thing that saved me was that the officer looked at my engine bay from the driver side. the intercooler blocked his view

Just cut it
 

Why bother paying for a peice of sheet metal when you don't have to? Just cut the stock shield. The guys at LIC did it for me and I had no idea what they were doing until it was done. One minute the old DP is out the next they had one of those little dremel or miter (not too sure of my tools here or how to spell the names of them) saws out going to town on the stock heat shield. They didn't even bother to try and sell me an aftermarket shield for $40+ bucks. I thought that was pretty classy of them. It's kind of sad that I moved so far away from them (Discovery Bay). It was nice living just a few minutes away.

What do you use to cut it?

dremel + cutting disc.

two things i can pick up at home depot?

yep dreamel would work.

If you are going to buy a tool get the circular cutting tool from craftsman. It comes with an angle grinder attachment as well as a dremel-like attachment. It also comes with a ton of other stuff. I picked mine up at Orchard supply hardware for $100. The angle grinder and cutting disk that come with the tool will cut through the heat shield pretty quick.
