Hankook R-S3 or Dunlop Star Spec or Yoko AD08

I'm interested in hearing what you guys think of either of these two tires in terms of track performance and daily drivability.

TireRack has the Star specs at $127/tire with a $50 mail in rebate when you buy a set of 4.

The R-S3 is going for $135/tire - no rebate.

OR Yoko AD08 for $177/tire.

I'll be using these tires for some track use and daily driving. Which would you pick up?

Out of those 2 choices I would definitely go with Yokahama Advan AD08 Neovas ;)

I also thought about those...adding to poll.

R-S3's are a pretty new tire. From my experience, Z1 > R-S2.

I don't have any experience with the RS3s but the Star Specs are awesome tires. Best bang for the buck in high performance tires
The Star Specs are brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. We ran the 245's for One Lap, then an autocross or two, a track day, RTA at Autobahn, AND RTA in Nashville all on the same tires. Not the same size or brand, but the SAME tires.

We tried a different tire at first at Nashville, and during practice we found they were severely lacking so we had the old reliable 245 Star Specs put on the wider wheels and ran those.

We actually cracked open the corporate wallet and picked up new 255's for CMP, and we are even happier with those. We expect we'll be running these tires for quite a while.
I've heard really good things about the star specs too, they were my choice for next set of tires.. but now I'm bouncing around RE-11r's or AD08's as well, though they're in a completely different price range.

Out of your three though, I'd vote for AD08s :)

caffeinefr3e 02-16-2010 10:01 PM

Star specs. AD08's if you can afford. In the price range, I have not found a tire that outperforms the Z1SS. Wet grip, dry grip, and how much heat it can take. The wear is not too bad on it either. I had my Star specs for 6 months, as opposed to my Nitto NT05's for 2 months.

i have the star specs and i love them

+123456789 for star specs

How do the Star Specs' last? I expect them to wear out fairly quickly, but if you were gonna guess at how many miles?
I remember the old Yokohama AVS Intermediates, they were stickey as hell, but I'd burn off a set in a year of street driving

Giibo 02-17-2010 08:32 AM

No one's had a chance to run on the track with the R-S3's yet? i'm really interested in this tire but everyone seems to be vouching for the Star Specs. And the price is pretty good too.

caffeinefr3e 02-17-2010 08:52 AM

If they're anything like the rs2's, I wouldn't get them. I decided to by the rs2's on closeout and I sincerely regret my decision. The grip and heat capacity on them is horrid.
