Front O2 sensor replacement

Well I just was driving then set off a Cel somehow, i pull over and luckily had my accessport with me and read the code. It was a p0031. It says "Front oxygen (A/F) sensor heater circuit low input". I reseached lots and found various reasons and most i saw was either cut line somewhere from the front o2 sensor or bad sensor. I inspected the wire(blue wire from o2 sensor) and it was fine and i took out the whole o2 sensor itself and it looked black as well as i thought it should being as how its always hit by exhaust gases. My question is, is there any thing else it could be? Can i check to see if the sensor is bad, and if i do need to replace it what are my options meaning brand and price. thanks again guys.

Cameron

P.S. i have perring equal length headers and perrin up-pipe with 64 miles on my 07 sti. Car is tuned by DB tuning for the last 15K.

Most likely the sensor. They just go bad. I don't know about how much they would be.

So you've just thrown on the new headers? Have you made sure that the connector is plugged in all the way?

If you're going to get another sensor, save yourself the hassle and go with an OEM o2 one. The aftermarket stuff can end up being more trouble than it's worth.

No, the car hasn't been modified since its was tuned almost two years ago by DB tuning with all those parts on it. Just was driving and it poped up. Im getting really nervous now see as how i stumbled across some threads on nasioc and they had some horror storys with this code :/

yeah 60k+/- seems to be the typical lifespan of a front 02, my second one went out at around 110k on my 04 STI, its an easy 30 min-1hr job, just get an 02 socket. And yeah, get OEM

I have never tried it but some people have told me you should try cleaning it real good before replacing it.

+1

With a previous car I owned, It threw a CEL and it was the #1 O2 sensor. I was on disability and broke at the time so i wasn't able to afford a new one. Cleaning it was suggested by a couple of people I know who work on cars that I trust so i thought i would give it a try. I pulled and cleaned the 02 sensor with some carb/throttle body cleaner. It worked. I forget the exact amount of time but it lasted me without throwing a code till i was able to afford the new one. Cant hurt to try.

If you don't mind some speculative wrench time I've got one in the garage you can try. Replaced it chasing a CEL which was later diagnosed (and fixed) as a vacuum leak. Thing is I don't know for sure the old sensor didn't have a hand in it. But if you can be bothered to try it before ponying up for a new one, let me know and I'll stick it in the mail.

BTW, if you do "go new" I got my replacement from Amazon (yep) and it was closer to $100 shipped.
