Favorite Macro Brew Thread

This is meant to be a related topic to the "Favorite Beer" thread. Basically, now that times are tough(er), I figured more and more people are drinking cheaper macro brews rather than their normal premium micro brews.

My personal favorite macro brew (out of the ones I've tried) is Pabst Blue Ribbon. Putting aside the fact that it has a reputation for being cheap, I've got to say that I find it has more flavor, i.e. a distinct hoppiness, as compared to Bud, MGD, Coors etc.

When I'm drinking the cheap stuff, It's Budweiser!
Because when you feel like getting trashed on cheap beer...nothing does the job like a few buddies!

coors light 30 packs on sale for $17 = a good night of beer pong :D

pignoseWRX 07-25-2009 08:53 PM

pbr, blech... coors light all the way.

i like stella and anything but coors for the light stuff, so bud miller and keystone are all good for drinking games in my eyes. oh natural ice is disgusting

ruehl 07-25-2009 09:18 PM

coors light all the way. i will drink the others but i won't be a happy person. but 1$ pbr after midnight at a local bar is normally to cheap for me to pass up.

I'll admit that Coor's Light is easier to drink, i.e. lighter, and is therefore better for chugging/shotgunning where taste doesn't matter, but as far as the flavor of the beer, I'm still PBR has Coor's Light beat.

honestly think coors light is way too much like water, easy to down quickly yes but tastes so bad its almost not worth it. +1 for PBR, thats pretty decent stuff

does Tecate count? its relatively cheap and has a lot more flavor than the other light stuff, and is easy to drink as well. If so, it gets my vote

camshaft06 07-25-2009 10:46 PM

What's up with all you light beer drinkers!
I guess I am not cool/trendy enough to go with the PBR...I was stealing that out of my grandpa's refer before most of you guys were even born...now I feel old.
But yeah, cheap beer is cheap beer, and as long as I get a good buzz off it, it's all gravy. I don't think I have ever got a buzz off of light beer however, it's more water than alcohol, and I feel like I should be staring in a "Detrol" commercial!

Coors Original or Michelob Amber Bock / Michelob Ultra Amber (which is kind of a macro brewery trying to pretend they are a micro). Dos Equis or Dos Equis Amber from time to time too.

Or, whatever is in the cooler wherever I'm at.

Also, PBR is totally a hipster beer nowadays.

I'd rather sacrifice quantity instead of quality.

Does Guinness count as a macro? :D

Also, you guys do know that the light adjunct beers were created in war time A) because they used corn and rice as fillers since barley was sent overseas for the soldiers, and B) so there was something to market to the WOMEN that were still in the US while their husbands were fighting.

First off, Guinness counts as both breakfast, lunch and dinner...you could also count it as a macro beer, but along with that you have to toss in almost every other "imported" beer.
For all purposes relevant to this thread, I believe we would be speaking of the "cheap beer" or the more bang for the buck beers. At least that was my take on the situation. I, for one would much rather drink a sixer of Harp, than a sixer of Miller...but, the question is...what will get me drunk the cheapest.
and in my honest opinion, Budweiser will do that for me, personally. Does it taste great....NO
Does it do the job....YES!

So chalk one up for the rice brews!
