Exclamation Exploding Subarus!?

I went to lunch today with some friends. We got a place to sit at the restaurant, but I forgot to put some change in the meter. I went outside and started to put change in the meter when this lady comes up and starts to talk to me about my STi.

She told me that her friend had a car just like mine - same color - (I'm assuming it was at least an impreza) and that he had rolled it or had a bad wreck. The car burnt to a crisp. They she told me that he liked it so much he got another one just like it. He then had a light wreck but it STILL burnt up! She told me to be careful and that her friend said it was possible due to a falty fuel pump.

What is the deal? Does anyone know about anything like this happening to an Impreza. I think it is possble that this guy is a bad driver and might have wrecked it a little more then what she is telling/knowing.

Thats very weird.....maybe she thought her friends car was the same as yours just because its the same color......you know how some people are....."hey that car is just like my friends car! its the same color! yay  " who knows.....I have never heard of a suby burning up like that because of a small accident or a faulty fuel pump....if that was the case SOA would have to issue a recall for safety concerns. Not to mention there's a few threads around here, that show a guy who had a WRX and it was sandwiched BETWEEN 2 SEMI TRUCKS, and squished flat......the driver (extremely lucky) walked away and the car did NOT burn up......I dont think she knew all the details.

The dude probably installed a stereo and shorted something out causing the fire or something......

Never heard of a wrx or sti burning in a wreck, but I have heard of wrapped header/down pipe catching fire.

ahhh, good point....that could be......then the fuel dripped on the hot exhaust......however, I'm not so sure that would actually ignite the fuel.....I've seen people flick lit cigarettes into buckets of gas (for demonstration purposes only) to see if it would catch fire......and the cig. just went out, so I dunno....

but then again, i heard of people's trucks catching on fire when they dripped oil/tranny fluid onto the hot exhaust pipes...

of course i also saw a video debunking hollywood movies as they shot automatic big caliber rounds into a 5 gallon container of gas... and nothing happened.

so i guess YMMV....

Don't get confused if you read about the ammo in his glove box. That did not start the fire, it only kept the firefighters from trying to put it out and risking the shells going off. The guy smelled fuel for a few days and the BAM

with all the "look how bad of a wreck I survived" threads I have yet to see one that burnt up. Maybe he modified it and put in some crappy fuel pump??

It was probably a neon srt-4. Women constantly mistake it for a wrx.
