Driving shoes, are they worth it?
 

There is a puma outlet in the mall i work at and they have an assortment of driving shoes for going at 40% off right now.. i can pick up a pair for about 30-35 bucks!

Anyone have driving shoes out there that think they were a good buy, it would be cool to have i think but i just wanted some input, thx

If they're cheap sure...

if they're reasonably-priced or you really wanna prevent your good kicks from getting creased up (like many shoe fiends, esp. hardcore sneaker fans), by all means, go for a pair of driving shoes. I've been meaning to pick up a pair too, but I'm a die hard NIKE fan and don't care much for PUMAS.

If your talking about PUMA speedcats, they are decent driving shoes. Supposedly co-designed by PUMA and Sparco, they make it easier for you to heel and toe and such.

lol....oh yeah, just A$S-umed most people would be aware of the functionality/"performance" benefits of driving shoes ^^^^^^

If you're willing to buy a pair, I'd be willing to pay you :)

well, I'm one of the puma's fan, just let u know, don't really have to get the Puma speed cats or other look alike for driving shoes, it kinda over kill.

I had a pair of Puma California, thin bace, but enough for daily walking, round heel....trust me... great on (daily) driving and street race ( if you do), the feel and kick down for the heel and toe is great. and there is one other puma call Advantage, it almost the same as the California, so... take a look in those.

also, I had a pair of Roma, but some how it drag on the carpet from it little sharp heel (not that much... but still)... anyway... it your choice also... but take a look around, and think about it... do you really need a driving/race shoes??

In answer to your original question, whether they're worth it depends on what kind of driving you do. The pedals in Imprezas are pretty well laid out, so unless you have really big feet AND do a lot of heel-and-toeing, I don't really think they're necessary. I have a pair, but I don't use them in my car, and I just drove an STi in a rallycross and don't think I'd need them in that car either.

In my Miata though, it's a different story. The pedals are set up so that I can't cleanly heel-and-toe without driving shoes (at least not without banging my knee on the column). I have a pair of Alpinestars that I use strictly for track events in that car.

Good driving shoes are spendy and wear out fast if you walk on tarmac in them, but they do make it a bit easier to move your feet around and do afford some fire protection. You can get just as much pedal sensitivity out of a pair of lightweight worn-in sneakers though, and the sneakers have better arch support.

i have a pair of Puma speedcats just cause i needed some new kicks and i thought they were pretty cool looking... but i have long been a fan of pumas.

they are definitely more comfortable for longer trips as well. i agree with arch support. there is none. and forget about wearing them everywhere. the bottoms are so thin that you feel like a cross between a ninja / ballerina :)

I picked up a pair of lightweight, thin-soled pumas at sportmart a while back, they're very good for driving but are not so good for walking or dancing at all. I'm not sure that these shoes were made for driving but shoes like this do the job regardless of what they were made for.

And where is the sale going on soggynuts???
