I've used 9-1-1 from my mobile number and it worked fine. Goes to the CHP dispatcher. I reported a man in a wheelchair heading [color=gray][i][b]up[/b][/i][/color] a freeway off-ramp in the City. He was going back and forth between cars waiting for the signal light to change at the end of the off-ramp.

one thing about 911... when your in the middle of a huge downpour, expect the chp to take 10-15min to pick up. Someone wrecked badly in front of me when it was raining cats and dogs. There was to much traffic for me to pull over and help, so I called 911, 13min later they picked up. I can understand that there were a lot of accidents that time of day (740am even said that the chp was busy!) but what if that person past out or something while trying to call themselves? (cell locators aren't on every phone.)

at the same time though they can't have 5000 dispatchers sitting there getting paid just waiting for that one time for it to get busy.

I realize that, I have family in the chp and law enforcement, but it's just scary sometimes that people don't know how to drive in the rain and create situations like that.

That unmarked police car is scary stuff too, but I don't think I have to worry about that since I'm a 340lb dude. (those descriptions earlier made it sound like rapists were doing this sort of stuff.)

I call 912 it's faster service.

I was driving on central expressway going to palo alto minding my own. Came to a stop and I noticed a guy beside me looking at me and was saying something. i had my windows up so I didnt hear what he was saying. So I lowered my windows maybe he was going to ask for directions or something. I did and he was cursing me like crazy. I looked at his eyes and looked liked he was on drugs or something. I waved and proceeded with driving. Next light he yelled "I want to kill you" and curses some more. He stepped out of his car in the middle of the road. I was about to do the same but my wife was pulling me back in. Green light and this guy was inches from my door doing the same thing. called 911 they told me they will tranfer me to CHP and was put on hold. I had no choice but to take matters in my own hands. thank goodness for handsfree. still on hold, I decided to try and lose the guy. Right onto rengstorff went into side streets and lost him. all these happened more or less 5 mins. then CHP picked. asked where Im at and all that I even managed to get the lic plate when I looked at my rear view mirror. they asked me if I want to press charges I said yes and you know what, they put me on hold again and transferred me to palo alto PD. So I just hung up.

Don't you just love our emergency system?

They do in Walnut Creek!! My friend "stole" a golf cart for three minutes and went in a circle. He brought it back to the building w/o even arguing. Ten minutes later there were four cop cars at the building and I saw probably three others patrolling looking for the "criminal"

If I've ever had to call 911 on my cellphone, it either takes 1 minute or 20 minutes to talk to someone...

so, moral of the story, don't call *677 (unless you are in Ontario) but 911 instead if you are worried about an unmarked police car trying to pull you over.
