Comcast Problems
So I finally signed up for Comcast internet but haven't been able to get the modem to hook up. I've tried to connect it to every cable jack in my house and the modem just doesn't want to connect. The tech at Comcast told me if i can't get it to work I would have to pay a tech $50 to come out and take a look at it. I've had DSL forever but it's too slow in my area (450 down/180 up) and thought the cable thing would be easier to set up than DSL. All my TV's in the house are pretty clear and have digital cable on a few sets. Anyone experience this or have any tips?

Each LED on the modem should begin flashing then stay lit in succession. Do any of the lights come on when you plug in the three cables (RJ-something jack to the NIC jack on your computer, coax cable, and the power cord)?

At first i had the modem set up through the splitter but then the phone tech told me that i might have a bad splitter. I then hooked up the modem directly to the cable and the power supply. The top two light up but the third (send) just flashes and the fourth (online) never lights up. I've power cycled it numerous times at each jack. Seems like i might have to call their tech. When i had it hooked up to the computer the same thing was happening. It was hooked up through the NIC card instead of the USB, but that shouldn't change the green lights.

Just solved that problem...
It wound up that someone (from Comcast) had put an attenuator inline along my cable line leading into my house. Comcast lowered the signal strength during the day, and my internet went away. Just solved the problem today though.
I'd call them out and have them do the work. If it turns out that it's not your fault (something you're not doing right), then they don't charge you. At least that's what I was told, and I didn't get charged for the work they did here.

most of the actual comcast dudes are friendly and will work with you.
cant say for the independent contrators.
once, a comcast dude spent like an hour finding a problem with my HDTV service. replaced a few things INSIDE the house and stuff.
in the end? no charge.

looks like im going to have to call them up. this thing doesn't want too hook up. hopfully it won't be too bad. last time the comcast guy came out he was really friendly and didn't charge us to take a look at our signal quality.

Sometimes the problem could be a real silly thing like forgetting to register and verify your modem with Comcast. I remember I had to do that once when I got a new modem.

A few nights ago, Soren had the worst time setting up our Comcast internet service. After hours of wrestling with the shizzle, he finally called them. It turns out there was something funky with their installation CDs. They were able to fix the problem and have us up and running in no time.

I had a problem of dropping off. I told them it was the modem, but instead they wanted to put a new line in because they think my splitter/amplifier is no good. I said, everything is fine there. So the new line was put in. Took about an hour then pow! Nothing. They gave me a new modem.

Most techs that went to my house through my 6 years with Comcast even back when they were AT&T, they would check the line with their meters before wasting time installing a new line or something like that.
