'bout time to get a new clutch on my WRX and i was hoping i could get some insight from you all on a good brand/local vendor/local installer.
my 05 wrx has 57,xxx miles on it and it spends A LOT of time in traffic, SF hills, etc. i occasionally autox and typically drive "spirited" since i've recently added a borla hush CBE and k&n typhoon intake (and bc i love my car).
i still have the extended warranty and i'm not looking to jump into a super-aggressive set-up, just to give you an idea of where i'm at.
i'd love to go local to support one of our shops. any recommendations?

Stock Clutch!!
I dont see the need for anything stronger than OEM on the 2.0 liter, unless you just love to have that stronger clamp.
The biggest benefit of sticking with OEM is that it is much easier on the gears, if you accidentally bang a gear with a stronger clamp, you have more chance of breaking a gear. Not to mention that a stronger clamp would be a bit more challenging on the steep SF hills.
That being said, if you like the stronger clamp feeling and treat your transmission with respect go for it....but the stock clutch is quite good for up to 300hp on the 2.0 liter wrx. When my clutch on my old stage 2 wrx wagon started slipping, I replaced it with OEM clutch assembly, throw out bearing and flywheel (I only changed the flywheel because Subaru changed the weight on the 2002 year to prevent chatter). You could have yours resurfaced, replaced with OEM or go with a light flywheel.
Hope this helps, do some searching on the other site for more info.
My 2 cents.

If you pick up an OEM clutch from the dealer, it will be expensive....you could probably find the whole assembly, TOB and such online from SubaruGenuineParts or other subie vendor. I was in a pinch when mine needed replacing so I went to Downtown Oakland Subaru and got reamed on the price (cant remember exactly but it was A LOT), plus the service was horrible, I would NOT recommend ANYONE going there. The only person there with a brain is Chris.
Installation....you cant really go wrong with any i-club vendor, I would choose the closest to you.

for the price of a stock clutch you can buy a better one...seriously.
I drive a lot. There's probably only a handful of people on this site that have more miles per year than I do....and I used to drive in S.F. A LOT.
I changed my stock clutch out at about 90k.
I highly recommend going with an exedy stg. 1 clutch.
It has much much better grab than the stock clutch. It should last just about as long. It's made by the same folks so the peddle feel is damn near identical to stock.
I got mine from crucial but there are lots of places that do clutch purchase and install deals.
I'd highly recommend either going to LIC or GST. I got mine done at GST along with an ACT flywheel, SS clutch line and front and rear shifter bushing. Mike actually asked what clutch I went with because if felt so much like stock..maybe even abit softer.
It's a great clutch for someone like yourself and not outrageously expensive.
Let me know what clutch you go with, I think i'm going to have to change my clutch soon also because it's slipping and clutch shudder.
