is this a common swap? and is something like this easy? my gf wants a bug, but i really want to make it reliable, and something like this with a suby engine would just put a smile on my face. Rather than have the old motor in.

It's better to just build a 1775cc with dual baby dell's or some small webber carbs.

its better or easier?

I did a quick google search and it seems like ej20 or ej25 non-turbo motors fit right in there with minimal mods. But most of these are in other countries. I guess I'll have to ask around the VW forums

Cool thing is that they kept the bug in it's orginal configuration, flat 4 only very modern compared to the original one.

How well can you get a bug to handle? Wouldn't you basically have to replace EVERYTHING, and I mean everything in order for it to handle on par with modern cars? My friend had a bug that we'd work on all the time, as nice as it looked due to the work he put into it, it was still a bucket mechanically.

I imagine that if you were going to do an STi swap like that guy did, the car would no longer a bug, all that it would share with the VW is the body/shell. Even the interior/seats would have to be replaced for safety and handling concerns...

I wonder what he has done to that thing all together? There's no way that he's driving around in a standard VW bug with an STi engine wedged into it, well, unless he's crazy!
