being that theres an MSRP, i doubt you're going to find anything under it... if you do it will be a small discount. if money is an issue get a used one off CL. done and done.

If you are an electronics noob, I suggest searching on CL for "xbox repair". There are several places that will repair rrod's for ~ $30.

I used to repair them. It's pretty easy. you take it apart, take the chip off, clean the thermal compound off and put new compound.. Then the X clips, replace those with screws and nylon washers instead of the X clips. Done and done. You can find all the information and videos online. Costs about 15-20 bucks in materials to fix it. Good luck!

This. I tell customers who have them and don't have warranties that they can do it themselves for far less than they would have bought a new one from me. |
It can be fixed... sorta.. I have fixed mine 3 times now and it currently has the RRoD. I'm so over it.
I would suggest getting one off CL. They can be had for ~$80. |
I traded all my old 360 components (power cord, cables, head set etc.) And few games At GameStop and got the newer slim for around $85.00. If your a member you get good trade in incentives.

Hmm... do they check for RRoD?
|
i wouldnt bother to repair them. Even if you remove old heatspread and apply new paste with bolts and washers with the additional of reflowing the GPU, it'll still overheat and rrod again after a few months hence you see the 90 days warranty on craigslist. The best thing to do is put 199 aside and order a new 4gb slim from amazon. The new heatsink/fan layout is 100 times better than what it was before and using lower wattage cpu/gpu combo.
Or if youre really frugal and dont mind not having a wifi adapter built in, go on craigslist and find yourself a jasper original x360 (manufacture date should start mid 08 until now) |
You could win one off of this site for pretty cheap.

But this will also only last for so long and you can only do it so many times. I used to buy RRoD xboxs on CL for cheap, fix them and sell them for $80-100. Thats how I got mine. It worked fine for 8 months then red ringed again. Fixed it, and the only way it would play was if it was not in the case and I had a floor fan blowing cold air all over it :lol: edit: here it is haha |
Sounds about right...
