Ca-152S traffic??
Hi all.
I'm going to be heading down to LA after work from SJ. Mapquest said to take the 101s to the 152 to the 5. Is there normally traffic on the 152? I'm used to taking the 580 to the 5 from the east bay. But it looks like the 152 is a straight shot south from SJ to the 5 Thanks |
being that it's a one lane road each way, there is bound to be traffic. if there's an accident, it slows to a crawl. i drive to LA often enough and taking 152E is about the worst part of the trip.

fak
I was afraid of that |
It all depends on the time your leaving also.. i've taken 152 and it can be a ***** sometimes
|
prob around 7pm from San Jose
|
drive up to 580 if you wanna avoid 152, but that is quite a bit out of the way..
|
yeah that looks way out of the way. Ill just suck it up I guess. It will be almost 8 by the time I hit 152 anyway
|
by 8 you should be fine. i used to take that all the time driving down to socal. never ran into traffic but thats cuz i always left at like 6am.
|
I'd either stay on 101 all the way to LA or else take 25 from Hollister to 198 then head east to Coalinga, either of those is a much nicer drive than I5 the whole way, and 101 takes almost the same amount of time.
Add an hour or two for the 25/198 route, but there you get lots of twisties.... |

There's usually a lot of traffic in the eastbound one lane portion of 152 around the 156 interchange. It's because of all the idiots that stop!!! and let the oncoming traffic turn left onto 156 even though there is NO stop or yield sign there. JUST KEEP DRIVING!!!
... had to vent. :) |

yea. thats your best bet. 5 always runs pretty good. |
That late might be ok. I have seen it bad leaving at 6pm. And this
is a three day weekend. If you decide to do it, I'll see you there as I'm going that way tonight as well. Given that way or back up to 580 I would probably take 152 rather than backtrack up 880. Or 101 all the way as someone else suggested. |
At 8PM you'll be good.. It'a long drive to 580.

Ah yes, you must have been out by San Benito on Old Hernandez Rd, there are about 3 or 4 places to turn off 25 that don't get through, but if you stay on 25 all the way to 198, you should have no problem.
That is really my preferred way to go, but the last few trips I've gone on time has been of the essence so I've been slogging up and down 5 Just make sure not to try Jackass Grade (Panoche Road from Apricot tree west) during the rainy season, even with AWD you probably won't make it |
