Brake Cooling ducts

I posted this thread in the Brakeworld forum....but I don't think that many people go there a whole lot. I think I can get a lot more feedback here. But basically I saw this thread on scoobymods:

Has anyone heard of this and/or tried it before? I see the ducts under the fog lamps...and the passage way to the brakes...but I'm no aerodynamical engineer and I don't know if the air gets dumped to the bottom of the car or gets channeled to the brakes without this piece of plastic. Thanks.

Good question. I was wondering why my ducts were missing...

invisibleman 12-10-2003 11:47 AM

mine are missing too :P

Its wierd, some cars have it some dont... Its hard to figure out, but I think some build dates during certain model years have it... The only way to tell is to look :p

I was just wondering if they make a big difference in terms of braking and cooling the brakes. It seems like a cheap and easy was to cool rotors down. And it seems weird that some cars have it and some don't...almost like they forgot to put it on...

More like they could save a couple of bucks on each WRX and no one would notice...

mine is missing too

Shouldnt subaru honor putting them on free of charge if you point this out to them. I looked at the pics on scooby mods the first pic the side slit is one large slit where mine has three small ones. Do you think the person modded his bumper to make it one large slit? I am going to look into this now that i know about it. The parts are cheap enough but still its not the point. I wanna be able to cool the front brakes as much as possible.

That's pretty slick.

^^^^Yeah i know, i almost bought the factory brake cooling ducts, until me and a couple of some friends really looked at it. This guys set up is really well directed to the rotor. I think it helps even more if you have an aftermarket rotor (like the DBA's that vent really well).

huck 12-10-2003 06:37 PM

True, but I like my foglights where they are. :D
