its ****ing bull****.
This recall on malfunctioning parts is based on vehicles with certain parts not locations or zones.

If I was a candymaker and we sent out a batch with bad peanuts to people in a variety of states, I would recall all the candy that had those bad peanuts. I would not additionally recall those that had good almonds or only recall the bad candy in certain states.

In regards to the Takata recall, they are recalling all the vehicle models with bad air bag inflation modules. If they were to recall everyone of their modules just because it "looks" the same then that would be nuts.

I think you are possibly confusing the air bag recall with other location based recalls like the recent rusting brake lines recall which did cover certain vehicles that were ever registered in states that uses salt for icey roads.

wrong.

https://www.subaru.com/vehicle-recalls/airbags.html

As you can see, Subaru has 3 zones, the cars listed grow/change/shrink depending on what zone the car is registered in. If you look under zone 1 then 2, then 3 the list grows.

however, none of them list the 03-07 forester (as I looked again and I was in error last post, or they removed it, i could have been seeing things)

but there is clearly a "zone" system. Still I find it very concerning that the airbags in my car are "safe" when every other car made that year are not?

smells like bull**** to me still.

You can have as many passengers as you want, just don't crash.

Interesting. Is that the same deal with the GD WRX? My '02 did not show up for it, but I see that '04 is and they have the same MOMO wheel. Not too worried about it since of course they can have a different unit inside, but the wheels look exactly the same, save for the red logo on '04+ (My '02 and '03 both yellow).

I hate this too.

But it's just front seat passenger. The rear is OK.

Thanks for the link. That was quite informative. Maybe you should read it as well.
Like I said previously the recall is due to bad inflators and as confirmed on the Subaru site bad inflators are the issue and more specifically those on the front passenger only.
The zones they mention are locations where the inflators might malfunction more likely because of environmental conditions and are resolving those areas as a priority but in the end all models included in recall are intended to be serviced.

You have a MOMO Wheel on the passenger side?

The recall is on the front passenger airbags. All the steering wheel bags are apparently fine.

No, I only have one steering wheel and it is mounted in the standard location.

I did not realize this only affected the passenger side unit. Great.

Still waiting on the 06. Wondering how long till the 13
is recalled.

Japan should execute some people at Takata. Not only have they known about it for years, they are still building them flawed. Shameful.

Sometimes doing things out of principle is stupid, but I think the next car will not be takata equipped nor hopefully Japanese. Failure to given the brz any nuts or turbo the outback has left me with a bad taste. Frankly each year that goes by most new models are less appealing.

why would you buy a new car? The hit in deprecation is just huge. Pick up a BRZ/FR-S that is 2-3 years old. Toss the CA legal supercharger kit on it, and you would still save enough money over new, to get wheels, springs, and some more go fast bits.
