Bay Area Hockey Thread

Discussion about watching, playing, and learning anything and everything hockey.

Introduction of myself and my career:
I've been a Lefty Defenseman from Day 1. I started in a tiny league that was at eastridge mall when I was 7 or 8. Played there for a season or two and then it got shut down. I transferred to "The Ice Centre" which then turned into "Logitech Ice" and now its "Sharks Ice San Jose". I played all in house leagues. I'm a '91 and had Carlos Lopez as a coach for a few years, Tony Corini as a coach for a couple years and then my final ice coach that I considered a coach and I think the best coach, was Mike Yost when I played bantams. I then played high school league and screwed around because thats what it was all about! When I graduated from Silver Creek in '09 I haven't played on an ice team since. I started playing roller at "Rollin Ice" in '07 and stuck with that because it was a lot cheaper and I had closer friends that played that. Now I'm starting back up next month for "Norcal Crossover" but I'm not sure what division we are playing in.

We got to get some street hockey together! I've got a perfect smooth surface by my house that me and some buddies play on. We've got a few nets amongst us along with goalie equipment and I probably have 30 jerseys. We usually play on roller blades and wear shins and gloves. Shins because we like to make the sneaky between the legs passes, but you can wear what you choose.

Nice job getting this thread started.

I usually play D or center. I've only been playing for 2 years (despite the fact I'm Canadian... I played a lot of baseball growing up... backwards I know). I had to come to California to start playing hockey. I've been skating all my life though so I was okay decent on skates already.

I've been in the Bay area for 2 years now and play at Sharks Ice probably 3-5 times a week (when I'm not playing games I'm at Gretzky hours getting in ice time).

I'd fully be up for some roller hockey sometime... I have a pair of roller hockey skates already but way more experience on the ice.

I know... I've always been a crazy hockey fan, just never played because I was busy focusing on Baseball.

I usually hit up random Gretzky hours throughout the week. There is one almost every day at 6:15 or 6:30am... I usually tend to go to the afternoon ones that start around 2. I think there is a rare evening one this thursday at 8:15pm... Those ones tend to be pretty full.

The morning ones are usually great because there is very few people there so lots of space.

I'd be down to go to an early morning one, it fits my work schedule a little better. Any idea who is working the morning skates?

Played street hockey since I was young.

Junior year in high school, I played roller hockey at Santa Teresa high. As well as my senior year.

Senior year: played roller for D2, and was assistant captain for our ice hockey team.
I also played varsity that year for in house ice hockey.

Year after graduation: I played for a short time, travel roller with mission rampage.

Now I sub for adult teams at sharks ice.

I'm always at school/work, unless there's an evening pick up?

There are a few evening Gretzky hours every once in a while... There is one this Thursday. I think they are more common place in the summer.

Goalie... not much else to say

I play ice/beer league at sj/fremont/san mateo for a few different teams/divisions..

Played street as a kid til 10 when i started ice hockey.. growing up on the culdesac on the blades w/ soccer shin guards lol.. the good old times!!

religious sharks fan/dual citizen(canadian obv), hockey is the best sport ever and i will argue that til my death, would definitely be down to get a little iclub sesh going at a gretzky hour/pickup.. could be alot of fun!

on a side note: more than a couple scoobs between all the teams/parking lots ive noticed, maybe hockey/subis go hand in hand
