It was a bad day on 880

I'm sure a lot of you sat through the traffic on 880 South in Milpitas today...

Anyone know what caused the accident?

I drove by right after it happened... creepy seeing a pair of boots sticking out from under a yellow tarp.

Is that a 2.5RS (MY 2000-2001, Blue Ridge Pearl) behind that GMC van in the story's picture?

Regardless, that's a horrible thing to see and RIP to the rider.

Things like this just back up my decision to NOT ride a motorcycle... I can't drive the speed limit and knowing my luck, I'd die as I was pulling out of my driveway.

On my way to work about a year ago I saw a bad accident involving a motorcycle (Sports bike) and a car. I saw someone laying on the street in the fast lane (which was virtually shut down by traffic/cars stopping to help) with a bunch of people surrounding trying to give help/cpr/first aid. I didn't know what happened until I got to work and read the article.... The guy that I saw laying on the ground was dead after a car merged into the fast lane (carpool) from the next lane and didn't look over his/her shoulder and didn't see the motorcyclist and clipped the cyclist's front wheel and took him out. The driver of the Camery was unscathed, no injuries what so ever... However, the biker slid on the concrete for a couple hundred feet as he hit the concrete going around 75mph... He wasn't wearing protective gear, just a helmet and a riding jacket, so you can imagine the sort of injuries he had to suffer through. I'll never forget that sight... There's nothing worse than seeing an innocent person lying dead in the road because of someone who didn't know how to drive.

Always remember, NO MATTER HOW SAFE YOU ARE, and how safe you ride, there will always be those idiots who don't take the 1/2 second to look over their shoulders and cause wrecks like these. RIP!

I made a deal with myself many years ago to stay away from motorcycles...
If I hit a guardrail at 70MPH in a car, I'll be hurt and pissed off...
If I hit a guardrail at 45MPH on a bike - I'll die

I raced bikes when I was younger.

After my first wreck on the road.... "I won't make that mistake again."
After my second wreck on the road.... "I need to change the way I drive on the road."
After my third wreck on the road.... "I'm going to die if I keep riding a bike."

Haven't ridden once since then. I miss it now and then - but stories like this make me realize it was the right choice.

As a summer intern 13 years ago, a guy I was working with told me about being stuck in traffic on the way to work. When he passed the accident he saw what looked like a guy in a motorcycle helmet sitting on the ground, leaning against a pickup.

Then he realized his butt was face up and his feet were face down. His midsection had been twisted 180, and he landed like that against the truck.

This story plus a mother who worked in an E.R. (where they have a nickname for motorcycle riders... "organ donors") = no motorcycles for Conc.

RIP rider :-/

I ride motorcycles and have only had one crash on the street (so far), but as time passes, I realized I have a lot more fun riding on the track than trying to navigate through the jungle of cars, bad drivers, texters, distracted drivers, bad road conditions, etc etc. I still have a DRZ for weekend/street riding, but have made my other streetbike into a track-only bike now.

I try to keep my risks low, I ride ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) and even have an airbag vest that goes over my gear. I do what I can, but I know I'm not invincible! I just can't give up this sport, I love it too much... and on that note, I'll be at ButtonWillow enjoying my moto this weekend.

Everyone have a fun and SAFE holiday weekend, please!
