Damn, that's nuts!

AdoboUaReX 01-10-2003 12:39 AM

Ouch! What happened? Looks like the tire hit the fender as well.

brucelee 01-10-2003 12:43 AM

Ouch, talk about design flaw!

AdoboUaReX 01-10-2003 12:49 AM

haha. i just noticed the guy in the tree. he must've climbed up there really quick when he saw that rim coming toward him!!!

Kostamojen 01-10-2003 01:05 AM

Uh, thats not good... cause I recommend rota attacks to like anyone I can :(

BADWRX 01-10-2003 07:47 AM

There you have it folks! The difference between cast and forged wheels!

Damn, that is an extreme example though!

On the whole, for the price, Rota wheels are a damn good deal.

rota wheels wrx 01-10-2003 07:51 AM

The attacks are rated at 690kg max load per wheel. Well over the JWL rating for the WRX which is only 505 kg. This wheels are tested via cornering fatigue test and until we get the wheels back, we will never know what caused the damage

Even the more expensive wheels have some form of failure in motorsports. What ever the case may be. We stand by our wheels 100%

That is good to see. At least you guys are backing your stuff! ;)

I like that. We need more vendors like this!

Yea, didn't Tommi or Petter do something similar this past season? I can't remember which rally, but I do remember the video. And they're riding on damn expensive wheels.

One of the Subaru Rookies (Dutch guy) tore apart a Prodrive P1 wheel during a rally....and then kept driving on it!!!!!

During the Rally of Germany? This was no P1 wheel, but rather a WRC wheel, with 10 spokes. Pretty close to the P1 wheel. The wheels are made of magnisium, which is much stronger, and lighter than forged/cast wheels!

Group B 01-10-2003 11:21 AM

magnesium is strong, but brittle.

OT, but ever seen a mag wheel explode? F1 car rides a concrete wall, the scraping ignites the wheel, and BOOM!!!

Kilika 01-10-2003 08:59 PM

The WRC wheels are cast magnesium. There are rules that forbid the use of forged magnesium because its way too expensive. But jeez, the rims are tortured a lot. Imagine doing a 1-2 foot jump with 18s on concrete!!! Ouch!!! Thats basically what happens in the tarmac events.
