Another Useless Tire Thread - Need Help Choosing Daily Tire!
Need advice selecting new tires for my daily 2006 Acura TSX. The all seasons that came with the car are done and I am looking at ~500 mile weekly commutes over the next 6 months along with at least 2 track days. So I need the tire to last ~20,000 miles.
I want to switch over to a higher performance tire given SoCal's weather; something in 225/45/17 size instead of the stock 215/50/17 since latter options blow. Original intention was to buy 2 sets of Hankook RS3s, but they are out of stock and Tire Rack does not have an estimate restock date. I guess due to next generation RS-4 release next year, but I cannot wait that long. My budget is ~$120 tire, so the first person to suggest the $170-200 option without a good explanation #BecauseRacecar gets a midnight visit from KGB wetworks team  These are my Tire Rack choices... I have ran V12 Evo before; not terrible not great, but it is more of a true High Performance All Season than a Max Performance tire. Too much sidewall flex and numbness when pushed hard. I would not be upset to use them again, but I was hoping for a sportier option. I have no base knowledge any other options as it seems all of my top choices are not offered in my size. But seriously, have you considered those two? I haven't checked the sizes so I don't know if they come in your size. |

I have not considered those two; neither Tire Rack or Discount Tire carry them. What is a good online retailer (and you better not say eBay)? |

People report these to be REALLY noisy plus its a 140 tread tire. I will go mad with all the highway driving I will doing. |
Ignoring any and all budget/other requirements: Michelin PSS. Never buying different tire (for my fun car) again!
|
I hear the Bridgestone S-04 isn't too bad. The Continental ExtremeContact DW is on closeout right now. Or go with Jourdan's suggestion on the Federal 595 RSRR? You know what I'd actually suggest but it's out of your price range.

It is not that I do understand importance of a good tire or cannot afford them, but a premium tire like PSS will be wasted potential getting chewed up in 405 gridlock 7 days a week. They also wear more like a 200 UTG tire, in which case I might as well spend same money on that level of tire to begin with (hence the original RS-3 plan). Hence the thread asking on input with the options available to me. Still reading up on 595. What's the out of price range suggestion? |
Never mind guys. Tire Rack was only showing me XL (high load) 225/45/17 tires when I specified my vehicle since OEM tires are XL
...I can see all of the other non-XL options now but have to crunch numbers to consider the load differences... |

That's a good choice for an all-around tire, but there are definitely better performance tires out there. You should try something like the Bridgestone RE71R |

EDIT: Gonna have to pass. People report these to be REALLY noisy plus its a 140 tread tire. I will go mad with all the highway driving I will doing.
They are popular with drift because they are cheap. They probably have the highest grip : price ratio. The 595RS-R has been around for some time. The 595RS-RR is new. The RS-RR is supposed to have a 200TW rating in the US. Even then, the RS-R showed great mileage for being a 140TW, it was showing almost 300TW mileage. IIRC, Tim put a ****ton of miles on a set he had. Unfortunately, I usually don't care about road noise. The only time I've had a problem was near bald Dunlop ZII. those were so loud you couldn't hold a conversation in the car. But only at ~75mph. Speed up to ~80 and they were fine. Vato has RS-R and my roomate has a set that I could probably throw on. If you're still in the area and want to go for a ride.
Ignoring any and all budget/other requirements: Michelin PSS. Never buying different tire (for my fun car) again!
I finally got to experience PSS. I can't stand those tires. They're way too soft. |
