Alternator?

Can you guys give me a ballpark figure for the cost of sourcing a new oem alternator and install?

IIRC, it was about $130 or so last time I replaced one. That was at least five years ago though so take it for what it's worth.

Subaru is telling me for re-man'd it's ~$250 and for OEM new it's $500. Does this sound right to anyone? Seems pretty pricey to me, and they're saying 2hrs for install.

Install is less than 30 minutes.

thanks, that's what I figured... I'm a backyard mechanic and was figuring even myself would be 1.5hrs and it'd be my first one.

You could pull yours and take it over to Starters , Alternators, generators, repair, replace, build in Campbell for a rebuild. They can do an amperage upgrade and do really good work

LOL I bought my re-amped one with the same alternator casing direct to fit our cars with an upgraded amperage for 212! The prices they are giving you is highway robbery.

Id recommend autolectrics too. We get lots of starters and alternators from them.

They are super easy to install on Subies, do it yourself! Just don't snap the belt tensioner as that seems to often happen

My stock alternator was rated at 75amps, new one is 140amps and no core trade. Still got my stock.

I would do this if I were in your shoes. This is what I will be doing to the RS when the alternator finally bites the big one. That's not too bad a price for that much amperage, especially considering you retain your OEM alternator.

I know you asked about new, but I grabbed a spare at the pick-n-pull for the grand total of $20. I would not be surprised if it was the same plug.

And yea, 30 mins to swap it.
