5 QTS German Castrol 0w30 + Purolater oil filter = 27.99 @ Pep Boys
Pretty good deal, this oil is usually $8 per quart and gets good oil analysis on the oil nerd forums. Make sure to grab the European Formula, says made in Germany on the back.

Any other weights?

just out of curiosity, and i am not trying to star another damn oil debate, why is european oil better? i love castrol, and if there is a better castrol i'd be more than happy to use it, i am just curious of the difference |
Yeah we even use 0 weight oil?

Yeah, there are other weights, cheaper too. I can't remember which weight but they had another Castrol special for 19.99 |

THIS. Quoted for truth. But isn't the recommended viscosity for most Subaru EJ engines 5W-30? Don't tell me that 5W-30 isn't one of the German Castrol viscosities! As for oil filter, Purolator is the first aftermarket brand I would look for when it comes to Subaru oil filters. |
The 0w30 viscosity is fine for Subarus, its good for cold starts and oil analysis has shown that the european formula shears closer to a 40 weight rather than a 30 weight. So it kinda sounds like the unicorn oil to me
|
That's pretty cheap especially for Porsche grade oil. This type of viscosity is good for oil sump systems
|
I'm tempted now. Last time I used Castrol Syntec (But I'm sure it wasn't the German-made one), my engine seemed quite happy, was quieter with Syntec in it.
And if German Castrol is on the heavy side, that's a great thing for Subie engines. |
Damn damn damn, I need a pep boys in my town!!
I'm going to have to make a road trip or have someone buy me some and pick it up from them. |
Kragen also has some. Except its 29.99 with your choice of filter up to a 12.99 value. I don't know if Kragen carries German Castrol, but if they do it's 29.99 with a filter value worth up to 12.99 lol
|
nice....I like the GC 0w-30 oil....my legacy never burned a drop of it...although my LGT never burned oil to begin with.
the front label on these also reads, "european formula" so that you know which one to get. |

I'll have to look then. I doubt my town gets anything good like that though. Too many rednecks and lifted trucks for anyone to give a damn about good oil. Gonna have to hit the pepboys in modesto before the saturday cen val meet. Would be nice running the 0w-30 since I live in a colder/higher elevation. |
This deal is awesome. I had to go to two different PBs since the first one only had 3 quarts left. They run a deal like this so much (norm about $35 though) that I'll basically get a free oil change soon. Already have 3 unused bottles from my last 2 changes.
