I'm also jumping off the Subaru ship.

My 2007 STi motor blew at 40k, turbo went out at 80k. Car has been bone stock for 40k miles now. I do regular maintenance and use the best possible oils, etc.

Just curious for those whos engines blew

What symptoms were seen and how did you confirm bad engine

You should have left it alone and kept it stock. Subaru does not sell cars with the intent of being modded, that is a 3rd party function.

You mod, its on you, all of us that mod are in the same boat. If my brand new 08+ oem block goes bad, its going to be on me because I have modded and tuned. I have done things with it, the engineers, you know the guys who DESIGNED the motor, never intended.

So, if you wanted to mod the motor, you should have done the research yes, known what you were getting into, what the outcome could be, and that you were doing something the car was never built to do. You want to point fingers at SOA, at others, when you should be pointing it at yourself.

Forget modding. Go take a bone stock STI on a track a handful of times and see how long it survives. Modding has very little to do with the failures. It's generally aggressive driving that takes them out. The problem is the Subaru is selling people performance cars and expects them to be driven like Camry's.

Your completely missing the point. The wrx/Sti is marketed as a "performance car" and the internal engine parts are cheap and fail on even on stock motors, these cars were supposedly designed to be driven hard (not every time you get in them)but we didn't buy a Kia for a reason

I'm on my last Subaru. My first STi went out due to a bad oil pick up tube (have you guys ever seen the factory welds on a new oem oil p/u tube?). My second motor went out last year.. Im really considering an Accord haha..

I upgraded my own sound system, love the moon roof and ditched my bat wing for a limited fin.

Yall should have bought old subies or a new evo.

If only I knew back in 2008 when I bought my WRX now, I would have bought and EVO 8 MR.

Cams, injectors, fuel pump, turbo = less money and more powa.......

Perhaps you should ask Subaru to produce a new STi that has 700+ WHP, run on regular gas, get at least 50MPG, not require maintenance, and stick with the same price tag.

Oddly enough Subaru would like to do away with all forced induction models as soon as they can especially SOA, the reason given is they account for less than -10% of SOA gross sales yet yield over 78% of all warranty claims :D

It's also plausible that Subaru knows the weakness in their current EJ257 engines given that since it's release in MY04 the stated crank output has increased roughly 2% (300 to 305) I'm fairly certain just about every other manufacturer that has a car still in it's line up even NA models boasts far more increase on their engines over a 10 year span!

That's a good point. The WRX/STI isn't a race car. Things break faster at the track.

You don't want the MR. The 5 speed is more reliable and can handle more abuse compared to the 6 speed in the Evo 8/9 MR.
