06 WRX Uncomfortable
06 WRX Uncomfortable
Yup. My 06 WRX is uncomfortable. As Hell. I am 6'3, and I got an 06 WRX Premium with moonroof or sunroof or whatever. I cannot sit up straight without hitting the roof. Also, the seats are contoured, which is fine, but its not for a big person.
Long story short, the ride is uncomfortable after about 1 hour. Enough that I want to get rid of the car. But I have spared no expense in maintenance, and would rather keep it.
Is there another seat I can put in it? Or some other way to create more headroom?
I thought about just trading for a regular Impreza, but apparently all of the older models have head gasket issues, and I cant afford to but a new one.
Thanks all.

I've got an 06 too and admit it's for little Asian people--me being one of them! I'm 5' 4" and think it's great sized for me, so I can total see that you have head room problems.
As aldrin WRX said, the newer GR chassis has better headroom.
But...if you are up for a seat mod (aka losing your SAB) then yes you can get two things:
1. A much more comfortable seat, especially for longer drives
2. A seat that allows more headroom for taller folks like you.
If so, check out aftermarket seat options (e.g. Recaro, Sparco, etc.). I went with a Recaro and am regretting not getting it earlier!

Most aftermarket seats sit lower in the car than stock.
I think Corbeau is hard to beat for the money

I have an 06 also and im not exactly a small guy either. It has its moments of comfort but longer drives defffinately suck. I've been looking into the sparco R100 its suppose to be extremely comfortable
I can't remember who makes it, but there is a low profile aftermarket seat bracket. Stock
Seats bolt to it too, but why bother.
I'd go with a lower bracket/rail combo and a nicer seat.
Also, places like TCdesign fab can make custom brackets as well, but it will be a little more expensive than an off the shelf bracket.
I'm short, but I still like a lower seat but level.

Yup, you will always have less head space with sun/moon-roof cars then non-equipped cars. The glass and sliding/operating mechanism have to go somewhere.
I am also the same height as you and owned an '06 (regular model). When shopping around, I still remember how cramped the Premium model felt due to the sunroof AND leather seats (I felt like they sat a lot higher...additional padding and leather material
)
Everyone already mentioned you possible solutions...all it comes down to preference and budget

Yeah I was going to say, swapping in a bugeye seat might help. Especially the way you can tilt the seat cushion low/back further as well. I find the bugeye seats to be very comfortable.
What a coincidence! I have a bug eye seat for sale, buy the seat, get the rest of the car for free!
