**** vista!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After endless forum searching and googling and yada yada yada, I called ms and after an hour on the phone with some indian guy he told me that vista doesn't allow you to install XP on a seperate partition. I wanted to set up a dual boot configuration for gaming purposes. Damnit.

Does anyone by any chance know how to somehow reverse engineer this issue and get around it? Besides installing xp and THEN installing vista on another partition...which is possible. UGH **** M$.

Maybe you could use a 3rd party partition tool like Partition Magic?

Jewbaru 05-01-2007 04:36 PM

My friend has installed vista then XP on a seperate partition :).

Personally, I will never use Vista. I'll stick with Linux and, for those times when I absolutely need Windows and Wine/Cedega won't do, XP.

pwn 05-01-2007 04:51 PM

You don't have to tell me about linux, I do unix work all day long :). I agree with you, and I would use OS X long before windows. However, games are games. Im going to try to get a version of xp home w/ service pack 2 on it, however I don't think its going ot make a difference. The partition that XP does see is 131,072mb in size, which is a limitation posed by windows I know, but it says that like 131,071 is free, which is absolute bull. I have PM 8.0 but it doesnt support vista so I will have to try to find another version, however windows partition manager should work - unless it somehow sabotages me from installing another windows copy on it. Its just verrry frustrating.

Try having XP installed first, then install Vista.... I think it'll work then.

Vista is garbage. Compared to all other computers I've seen, it's so slow. My roommate just got it on his Dell w/ Intel Core 2 Duo, and it runs atleast 3x slower than my XP Pro laptop with 2 year old technology built into it. He's also is running 2 gigs of RAM vs my 1 gig.

Took me over an hour to install Microsoft Streets & Trips on this laptop...
