When I was there in the summer, (june of last year) I don't think it ever got pitch black. 2am and it was still dusk outside.

in 6th grade earth science they teach you about how the earths axis affects daylight hours... it's pretty simple. summer = lots of light, winter = hardly any to none, farther north you get. they have a similar phenomena in australia...
