used turbo
I'm looking for a turbo for my '03 2.5 RS. If anyone has one from their WRX let me know. Please
I just replaced my 2003 WRX turbo with an IHI VF-34. If you are looking for a stock 2003 WRX turbo, I have the original in a box in my basement.
will it work on my car? if so how much did you want to sell it for?
I have a IHI VF30 Turbo that would work. Less than 500 miles, for $650.00. Live in Long beach.

If you are thinking of turbo charging a 2.5 RS you will need new heads and a block. Otherwise you will only be able to run about 4-5 psi before blowing headgaskets and internals. The stock 2.5 RS block is open and not strong enough to handle a lot of boost.
Yeah, it would be a little more practical to just buy a wrx if you really want a turbo.
Turbo'ing an RS is quite the project. Also, like posted above, the motor wasnt made to be boosted, so you might have reliability issues.
WRX swap into an RS would be awesome. Although thats an even bigger project. |

The STi's block is an open-deck design as well. A stock STi runs over 14 lbs of boost in stock trim. How come a 2.5 RS block will only hold 4-5 lbs reliably? Sure, they're different motors (2.0 Vs. 2.5) but the WRX was running a 2.0L also, and I'm pretty sure it was running more than 5 lbs of boost stock.... |

a 2.5RS has a....well, a 2.5 :D It is a completely different engine though, weaker internals, different intake minfold, different compression...just all around weaker and not made to be turbo'd |

STi is semi closed. The 2.0l usdm wrx has open deck |
why is it you can't boost an RS with an open block but the WRX is running some 13 lbs of boost with an open block? the STI only has a semi closed block.
Open deck doesnt matter. You can make 600whp on a open deck 2.5 with just STI internals. If you can get the parts it is worth it to get the turbo. If you have to get a kit just swap it. If you get the right parts for the right price you can turbo it for $1500. Now that wont get you enough to make it last forever but if you can keep the boost down and a good tune it will stay together long enough that by the time you have a spare engine built.
