Centrifugal Supercharger

Okay like it says in the title, has anyone seen or put a centrifugal supercharger in a subaru? Can it even be done? I am thinking it would take the place of a turbo.

theres a post on RS25.com, and NASIOC.com about a custom centrifugal supercarger kit in the works. i am anxious for it to come out myself, having been a fan of superchargers since my Saleen Mustang was sold

Kostamojen 07-28-2004 04:32 PM

There are one or two RS's with superchargers floating around... I think they both went up for sale too, LOL!

So far nobody's been able to develop a reliable setup for the EJ25. They all get boost creep at high RPMs and can't prevent detonation.

that would be pretty cool.

What about the SPT setup used in the ST-X concetp vehicle using an Eaton supercharger system. I have been searching around for more information about the setup with very little results. Actully sent an email to SVI who built the ST-X engine, waiting for a response.

That vehicle essentially had a factory reflash (assuming it was drivable at all). Without well-tuned stand-alone management, it's very difficult to keep a blown EJ25 running.

I belive that it was a functional engine although I doubt it saw much street time. Most comcept vehicles drive on/off a trailer and then get parked on a show floor. But if you were one of the guys that built a vehicle like this wouldn't you put it on a track and have some fun after the show?

What if you were only running low boost levels (4-6 psi)?
How much engine management would be necessary. Wouldn't you just need some ingition retard, a higer flow fuel pump and rising rate fuel regulator? Maybe a piggy-back ECM for new fuel mapping.

Apparently you need more than that, because the folks who tried to build blower kits had all that and still had problems. The main issue is at high rpms, because the supercharger will continue to build more and more boost at higher rpm and there is no way to reduce it, as they don't have wastegates.

Check out www.RS25.com and www.NASIOC.com. There are a few on both sites...and on RS25.com, there is a thread that is being updated about a new company comming out with a new supercharger kit. Appearently it is nearing completion and the test results so far look promising.
