From Nasioc Unabomber's FAQ: "A popular choice for autocross is the VF39 (yes, the STi factory turbo) It uses the F55 compressor wheel from the VF34 and a different version of the 18 exhaust housing. (I know there are lots of people saying it has a 17 housing but that is incorrect, I can take a pic if someone wants one ) The compressor housing has a bit smaller volume than the VF34. This one will spool well, slightly slower than the VF34, have almost identical midrange power, and nearly the same top end ability. Be VERY careful of boost creep with this one however due to the design of the exhaust housing and the wastegate."
Z1 Performance: "IHI VF39: This is IHI's newest bolt on turbo for the WRX and is found on the US Spec STi. Features the same compressor section as a VF30, but uses a new P17 exhaust housing, giving it a mid range advantage. Also has a larger exhaust wheel when compared to the VF30."

Lot more power gains than my stock vf40 (legacy gt)
Cons:
none
Did a STi swap on my 05 Legacy GT, had it done for nearly a month now and still can't believe the power gains
