Pros:

Very short throw
Cons:
Could be shorter, hard to put into reverse gear
This shifter came with my car and has short throws but I think it's just as good as say, a Kartboy shifter. Nice that it came with the car and is under warranty so I don't have to argue at a Subaru dealership for service.

Pros:

Vastly improved feel, shorter throw.
Cons:
Expensive compared to just a shifter.

This linkage will greatly improve the feel of your car. You will feel like you are in far more direct communication with the gearbox and gears are instantly easier to find. The reduced distance between gears also means your right arm isn't flailing all over the cabin to find the next gear.

I owned both the original Cobb short shifter and the Perrin adjustable "collar" setup (as well as trying the Kartboy in a friend's car) before finally giving in and paying the extra money for this. I would never go back. There's no extra force required to get in gear, the throw is short enough for me, and there's no custom work needed like other shifters that rub the aluminum plate under the console. It is the only "proper" short shifter, in my opinion.

positive sure shift, spouse liked it!
Cons:
no one wants the old linkage!
Nice "notchy"shift, much improved over stock. Really helps upshifting quickly out of corners. I installed a Kartboy brushing at the same time. It installed in about 2 hours. No forcing, grinding, or hammering needed. Biggest job was lifting the car safely in my garage. With a lift, this is a 60 minute job. I suggest adding a length of pipe insulation around the lever under the boot. There is a bit more vehical noise with the shifter. Not worth $500 from the dealer, but worth $250 and several hours of easy installation!

Of course, the throw was shorter and a little smoother.

Price, I got it with the car

I had the stock shifter for about 2 months, The STI, made a considerable difference. I may swap out the bushings to smooth it out a little.

Great product, STi name. I did the switch from stock to STi myself. Easy switch. Love the feel.
Cons:
Notchy at first but once you get used to it, it is as smooth as ice.
The switch is easy rather than paying someone else that money. Feels great ! Shift distance is greatly reduced, feels very sporty. Slight notchyness in the beggining days, once you get used to it the gears enguage really nicely. A definite yes !

Not as crisp as I was expecting

This short shifter is better than stock, but I was expecting crisper shifts. After trying the Kartboy I'm not too sure if this was worth the money. I have yet to install Kartboy bushings and I am hoping this will take care of the extra play in the STI shifter.

The short throw shifter has been in my car since I bought it. It feels extremely notchy but you get used to it and it makes you drive the car the same way every time. I have tried the Kartboy shifter for the 02WRX and I liked the Sti shifter better.

notchy feel

This was installed on my car when I bought it, and it definitely felt different than any other shifter I had felt. It was very notchy, and not very smooth. I have since got used to it, but my wife still comments on it when she drives it. Not bad, just different.

I never had the stock shifter so I can\'t compare it to that. But compared to a 1973 Kamann Ghia... WHOO! That shift is short! Haha. Very nice throw. Worth it.

A nice mild upgrade but the knob level is still tall and the throws are still pretty long. Not to mention install is much harder than just a lever. I\'d skip this and buy a Kartboy.

Hard to get into reverse on occassion

A lot stiffer shifting than the standard WRX shifter. Caught me off guard when I first drove home, as I test drove a standard version but bought the short shifter without test driving it.
I\'ve owned short shifters in other cars before, but this one seems much notchier as mentioned before in other posts. I am since used to how it performs and am able to drive normally. I have intermittent problems getting into reverse. Acts as if there is a misalignment or something. May have the dealer look at it when I go in for my next service.
Otherwise I am completely happy with it.

Quicker gear shifts hence faster response from engine

Cons:

I wish it was an even shorter throw

Unless you are new to MT or like your shift to feel like mixing a bowl of soup with a spoon, a short throw should be at the top of the mods list IMO. In essence the STI short throw fits my WRX wagon like a form fitting leather glove. I have experienced the tough reverse issue others have mentioned on rare occasion. If this occurs, shift into 1st or 3rd then reverse, no probs. I have had no mechanical problems with it and I have owned my car for 1 yr 3 months. It looks nice in my car and feels great.
This has enhanced the joy of my WRX tremendously.

It\'s a great addition to the car. If you don\'t get one as a factory option I highly suggest getting some kind of short shift set up.
So much better feel and the shorter ratio is much nicer.
Feels like I\'m shifting a mile in other cars.
