Subaru spent a great deal of timing engineering the WRX’s braking system, and it’s often easy to upset this balance when upgrading to aftermarket components. The key is to fully understand how the brake system was originally designed, and engineering within that criteria. Born from that philosophy, we offer our Stage 3 Brake Package.
A key benefit of upgraded brakes during racing or street driving isn’t simply shortening the braking distance during only one stop, but instead the ability to brake on the edge consistently and reliably. Maintaining the balance is critical, otherwise the car will get upset during threshold braking into corners – reducing lap times and making the car hard to drive in a fast, repeatable manner. The results from our Stage 3 Brake Package are not only shorter braking distances but better control before engaging ABS, more consistency, and a much better overall balance of the braking system when compared to the other ‘performance brake’ systems we’ve tested.
To do so, we utilize lightweight aluminum 4-piston calipers that are designed specifically for the WRX. This provides better clamping force which results in better braking performance and control. To optimize our caliper’s capabilities, we use huge 328mm diameter front brake rotors with unique aerodynamic properties for maximum cooling that exceeds even well-known racing brake rotors. The system is finished out with our D.O.T. Legal Stainless Steel brake lines on all four corners, a matched set of front and rear brake pads, and high quality Super Blue DOT4 brake fluid.
