Pros: Stock turbo spools earlier, doesn\'t decalibrate MAF settings
Cons: none

I wanted to improve intake but didn\'t want to replace the stock intake, which is supposedly rated for at least 300HP. Replacement of stock Subaru intake box will decalibrate MAF/ECU values, and I don\'t want to pay for the dyno and tune time to remap this.

The K&N filter is a simple install. Subjective evaluation: I observed spool-up on the turbo gauge and tach while running in fourth gear. I floored the accelerator and watched the climb from 2500 to 3000 RPM. I didn\'t feel any improvement in power with the K&N installed, but my stock turbo seems to start spooling up 200-300 RPM earlier with the K&N high-flow panel filter than it did with the stock filter.

some K&N part numbers for the WRX:
2002/03: 33-2232
2004/later: 33-2075

Pros: Easy to install and will last forever
Cons: No hp gain felt after paying $45

Took about 3 minutes to install and supposedly will last for 1 million miles, but after installing this filter I felt no difference driving my car and didn\'t even hear any difference from the stock one....

Pros: Helps intake breathing. Reuseable.
Cons: None

I bought it used from an i-Club\'er from Roseville with 20K miles on it in his 2005 (part number 33-2075). Cleaned it, reoiled it, and installed it. It\'s what I expect from drop in filters (I\'ve used them in all my cars), flows a bit better than stock paper filters. Throttle response feels slightly better and top end pulls feels improved on my 2004 WRX. It\'s not a \"wow\" mod that says...I gained 50hp or anything like that but the sum of all the mods I have, everything adds up and every little bit helps. It\'s also nice that I\'ll never need to replace the filter again.

Pros: Under throttle, you can hear a pronounced whooshing sound
Cons: No noticeable power gains

This was very easy to install. You can definitely hear more of a whooshing sound under throttle compared to the stocker. I love the sound. It's too early to tell what the impact is to gas mileage.
