This is the axleback muffler that comes standard equipment on MY04 USA model Impreza WRX STI cars. A common upgrade for WRX owners getting take-offs from STI owners who upgrade to aftermarket exhausts. Not much louder (if at all), slightly deeper tone. The most obvious difference is the single round exhaust tip vs. the dual smaller tips of the standard WRX sedan and wagon and the slightly taller box. It appears the MY05+ WRX cars get a similar muffler as OEM now.
Those who have done the conversion have stated that the diameter of the rest of the exhaust (turbo back) is the same diameter as the standard WRX version, and that only the axleback differs (along with the catless downpipe...but we are talking about diameters), therefore not necessary to install those parts from the STI on the WRX.

Pros:
Looks better with the single polished STi tip...sound is lower but not louder.
Cons:
Not a performance upgrade...well maybe a marginal one at best.
It\'s not like you\'re putting on a HKS Carbon Ti or anything like that.
The sound is probably just as quiet as stock but it is slightly lower.
I just like it because I\'d rather have a single tip and can argue with cops that it\'s a factory OEM piece

Pros:
Quiet, factory quality, bolt-on, single tip
Cons:
None
Like mentioned before...just as quiet as the factory WRX exhaust with a slightly deeper tone. Nothing too noticeable. You kinda have to listen really close to hear the subtle differences.
Not sure about any performance gains, but by the \"butt-dyno\", I felt throttle response was somewhat improved. I have nothing to back it up and maybe I was just excited to have it installed, but who knows, maybe the STI muffler has a slightly improved flow over the standard WRX flavor.
Either way, I like the styling better and it won\'t get my wife all upset over a loud aftermarket pipe. Plus the price was right at $100 shipped to my door.

Pros:
stock, deeper tone
Cons:
still stock.
no power gains really, but sound does get a bit throatier. aside from that, not much to be expected from this stock piece. works like it's supposed to.
