The Défi Link gauges are like other electronic gauges in that they offer peak hold, 2 minute memory playback, and user-selectable warning functions. But only the Défi gauges use a daisy chain wiring system, and as far as we know only the Défi gauges are available in English units. The Défi system is the only one we know of that offers modular external warning lights for any gauge. Plus, the gauge selection is unsurpassed.
Daisy chain gauge wiring makes install a snap. Run your sensor wires to the control box. Run ONE wire from the control box to one of the gauges. Then all you have to do is hook each additional gauge to any other gauge!
The gauges themselves use stepper motor technology to drive the needles. There's no mechanical link, so the meters are reliable and can be installed at any angle. And the stepper motor means the gauges are both light and small in size -- 52mm gauges are only 1 3/5" deep!
Each gauge has its own LED warning light, and the threshold level for that light can be set from the control box independently of the other gauges.
The modular warning light can be attached to ANY Défi Link gauge for a "shift light" style alert.
To run the Défi Link system you need the control unit plus at least one gauge.

Pros:

best meters I've used, match to WRX dash, good choice period
|
|
Cons:
|
wish the illumination would adjust like the BF meters

Rated as a 9 but should be a 10 (I never rate anything at the top though)
Wanted a boost meter for my 2006 WRX ltd. In past experiences I've always liked Defi meters best over Autometer and other junk. Although this was an expensive direction to take for only a single boost meter it is still worth every penny to me going with Defi.
In this case the Link series matches the WRX cluster very well. I wanted an imperical meter (reading in psi instead of bar/kPa/etc. I just wish the Links had the ability to dim/brighten the illumination similar to the BF series. The Link illumination is brighter than the brightest WRX cluster setting. Still looks good though.
The Link meters do not come with any meter cup or mounting fitting...in comparison the BF series do come with these parts. I had to purchase these items separatly to ensure a clean install. The optional fitting mount with the rubber isolator pad is much better than the stamped steel mount fitting that comes with the BF series. I mounted this on the right edge of the steering column.
I used the Subaru oem meter pack wire harness to supply my PWR, PWRign, GND, and PWRillum. Ran all the wires cleanly through the center console and to the Control Unit mounted in the compartment.
My costs:
52mm link imperical black faced $179
Contol Unit v2 $99
Defi meter cup and optional fitting mount $40
Subaru oem meter pack adapter harness $40
TOTAL $370
