for Impreza '93-up' Legacy '90-up' Forester 'All' SVX '92-97'.* Unorthodox Racing pulleys can provide gains of 5 to 12 HP and 4 to 8 ft.-lbs. on normally aspirated engines and 8 to 16 HP and 8 to 18 ft.-lbs. on forced induction engines. These are average gains. Gains as high as 37 HP and 45 ft.-lbs. have been realized on modified forced induction engines. These gains are obtained in two ways. First, and most important, is the weight loss. An average of 2.7 HP is gained from every pound lost off the crank shaft. 85% of our gains are from weight loss. The rest of the gains are from underdriving, which accounts for about 15% of the total gains. They do not push underdriving for two main reasons. Their main reason is to keep charging systems, air conditioning, power steering, and water pumps moving fast enough for every day driving. Second, not much horsepower is gained from extreme underdriving. All of their underdriving is done with the crank pulley, not the accessory pulleys. This is done so maximum weight loss can be achieved at the crank where most of the horsepower gains are found.

Pros:
Lighter / Slight improvement in throttle response

I had one of these pulleys on a 2000 Legacy sedan 4EAT. After installation I noticed a quicker throttle response when pressing on the pedal. Other than that I did not notice any real noticible hp gains. I did not have any CEL or misfire issues even though this was underdriven, I also had a Cobb CAI and Exhaust on the car. This might be more useful for a MT car, I wouldn\'t bother on an automatic unless you get a 3 piece pulley set like the GFB.

Causes Misfire CELS on some cars. P/S Pully is a PITA to install
I installed the kit which included the crank, power steering, and alternator pullys. Installation of the power steering unit requires the removal of the of the pump and a press. The instructions say you can use a puller but the snap on puller I was using caused the stock pully to break so I don\'t recommend it. I also don\'t think there are any substantial gains from the p/s pully. The underdriven crank pully caused me misfire codes. Unorthodox claims this is from sensitive cam timing sensors and suggested I go to a dealer for an updated reflash. Problem is I already have a reflashed ECU (cobb) and I would lose my reflash so I ditched the pully for a Perrin. No probs with the Perrin.

bad for your car, misfire sometime
i took it out because it made to many problems becauseo f underdrive. get the perrin or just a lightened pulley thats not underdrive
