Pros: the car is great
Cons: the buying experience was horrible

Me and my fiance recently purchased a '01 rs from bob baker subaru in el cajon CA. I found the car by chance, while i called for a used wrx they had. after speaking with a salesman about the car he sent me pics, and took some information, so he could give me a rough estimate of our interest rate and payment, because i live about 100 miles north of el cajon. i showed the pictures to my fiance and decided to make the drive down. everything was fine, the car was in great condition and we met with the finance lady to ink something up.
they ran our credit, and wrote up a contract for 7.9%, and made us aware that this rate was not set in stone but did tell us they were 90% sure we would get 7.9% and positive we could get 8.9%.
the next day my fiance and i visit our insurance broker and set everything up. the car is her commuter to and from work (about a 90 mile round trip) and she has no complaints. no word from the dealer by thursday and i have left at least 2 voicemails with no response. i do however contact the finance department that day and they say no word from banks.
friday, on my way home from work i get a phone call from the finance department. she tells me the length of the loan had to be decreased and we would need to come in to sign the new agreement, i then ask what the payments would be... she tells me the payment is now substantially higher, do to the interest rate being 16.99%.
this was obviously bad news and i couldnt understand how it could be so much higher than they had said we could expect. i asked her if she had exercised every option to which she said she had. the conversation continued and she had said we should look for a co signer. I AGAIN asked her if she had tried absolutely everything to get the payments nearer to what we were told they would be and she again told me she had done all she could do.
I am very dissapionted and dreading breaking the news that we would have to take the car back. my only option being a co signer, i call my father and talk him into co signing for us. something i really didnt want to do.
30 minutes later the finance department calls me back and, informs me that she has found a much better rate by financing through subaru.... this would have been good news, had i not asked her twice already if all options had been examined, which would have saved me and my father a headache(my father is a 69 year old retiree). we decide to have a co signer any way since we had already gone to the hassle of getting him an application by fax, and he had already gonr to the hassle of ok'ing it with his wife.
he faxes it to the dealership on saturday morning and recieves conformation that it was delivered. i speek with the finance department later that day and i am told they have recieved the fax, even speak about how my father and i have the same name. i am told i should here from them tuesday or wendsday.
tuesday i call to check the status and they inform me they never recieved the credit app. my father had faxed... so after grossly underestimating my interest rate, which alone would be understandable, they then lose my fathers credit app. after telling me it was there and claim they never recieved it at all.
i speak with the sales manager about the entire situation, and explain to him we would have never drove all the way down there had we been given a more realistic idea of what are interest rate and payments would be. he then tells me that his staff would have never told me they were positive about an interest rate, basically calling me a liar. he also tells me he will personally run a report on his fax machine to find out if they had recieved the app. or not.
well we decided to take the rate from subaru, without a co signer and are currently waiting on final word from that. still no word on the fax report.... sorry for such a long post and thank you for dealing with my horrible writing skills.... the saga continues, this morning my fiance calls the sales manager to tell him how she feels about suggesting im a liar and to find out if he ever found the missing credit app. he claims he has never spoken to me before, at which point she hands the phone over to me. he changes his story, real quick and says he never told me he would run a report on the fax machine, as he doesnt know how. my fiance takes the phone back and he hangs up on her, transfering her to the finance department. she is reconnected, to him and i take the phone back. i ask him why he keeps trying to call me a liar, and to find out where the credit app. went. he then hangs up on me. we spoke with the general sales manager, who is extremely appologetic, offers us free oil changes, blah, blah, blah....
we have filed a complaint to SOA, and the BBB...
