Subaru factory airbox intake and snorkel

Description: Standard equipment on thousands of WRXs, this well-designed piece filters the cool incoming air from a well-placed snorkel above the radiator support. The airbox keeps intake noise levels down while still providing sufficient filtered air flow to feed the WRX 2.0 liter and STi 2.5 liter engines, even when modified for greater output.

Important Note: DOES NOT CAUSE MAF SENSOR MIS-READINGS AS DO MANY AFTERMARKET INTAKES. WILL NOT CAUSE ENGINE TO RUN TOO LEAN OR TOO RICH.

Cost = N/A, standard equipment on all WRX and STi models

Pros: no cost standard equipment, flows enough air to feed most street engines
Cons: functional, but not very pretty

I'm very satisfied with my factory airbox, complete with 'snorklepuss' intake snorkle. It is trouble-free and only requires filter element replacement at 30,000 miles.

The factory filter element flows as well as aftermarket replacements due to the high number of pleats, which increases filtering area without making the element larger. No messy cleaning solvents or filtering oils to apply!

Filter element replacement is simple, with only four clips holding the airbox closed. Be sure that the lip of the airbox is fully seated before locking down the clips.

I think that Subaru did a fine job with their factory airbox and intake and I don't foresee ever replacing it with anything prettier.

Pros: Free! And it works!
Cons: Ugly.

I had a rice cone filter on my last car and it destroyed my TPS and MAF over time. Also, cleaning the filter was a PITA. Why not just use the intake that works and pay two bucks for a brand new filter when it needs to be changed? If anything, do the silencer removal.

Pros: cheap stealthy and has an easy install...
Cons: none

I like it. All you have to do is remove the silencer to hear a more audible turbo and bov.
