Description: The UTEC is a new concept in WRX engine management delivering the power and control of a stand-alone engine management system with the convenience and tuning ease of a piggyback system. UTEC enables complete programmable control over ignition timing, fuel, and boost, while allowing the factory ECU to maintain control over tedious and mundane functions that make the car drivable on a daily basis. Functions like cold start, hot start, intake temperature compensation, AC compensation and closed loop fuel control signals are all managed by the factory ECU reducing your tuning time significantly while enhancing daily drivability. Spend your tuning time doing what we all like to do – making your WRX faster!

Pros: Flexibility of tuning, multiple maps
Cons: lack of total control that you might get from a standalone

The UTEC allows the stock ECU to handle most of the basic aspects of the car's operation, such as idling and light driving. The UTEC takes over fuel, boost, and timing control after a user-settable cutover point. This allows you to have a car that both idles well at the stoplight and goes like a bat out of hell when the light turns green.

Additionally, the UTEC's ability to store multiple maps allows you to have different tuning parameters for 91 octane, 100 octane, hot days, cold days, etc, etc, etc. Change your intercooler? No need for a reflash, just tune the UTEC on a new map.

Pros: User tuneable
Cons: User tuneable

The utec is awsome in the sense you have control over all of your perameters, and theoretically you can use it to make the most out of any upgrade. However, if you don't know what you're doing you WILL break something. TurboXS provides generic base maps that are an awsome starting point for your tune, provided you have the same or similar mods as they reccomend for that map. To make full use of the UTEC though, you either need to have access to a dyno, or you must have a WB O2 sensor, a wide open road, and a lot of free time (and a good brain between your ears).

Pros: Control, flexibility, one component that allows you to control boost, timing, fuel
Cons: like any engine management, it's not for someone who doesn't know how to tune, or isn't willing to learn

(y)

I was one of the first to get it (2nd or 3rd batch, I believe). A major plus for this product is how firmly it's creators/distributors (TurboXS) stand behind it. It is still a hot product and therefore hasn't been put on a back burner by them. Ironically, as powerful of a product as the UTEC is, I suspect that it has a whole lot more potential.

I went from being unable to crack into the 13's to well into the 12's...without an AWD dyno available here on the island of Oahu. All because of the UTEC.

Pros: huge power gains
Cons: if you don't know what you are doing you are seriously going to kill your engine

This was by far the best investment i have made since buying my wrx. The power gains with mods are huge. The install was really quick and Is a must if you are serious about taking your WRX to it's limits.

Great add on features like launch control and remote map selector. This has so many bells and whistles built in you'll be in heaven.

Pros:
Cons:

This is the perfect system for someone who knows their tuning. I, personally, wouldn\'t recommend this to someone that isn\'t looking to have complete control over their tunes. You have total control over every aspect, but therein lies the crux. If you don\'t know what you\'re doing, you\'ll end up like me. Towing your car to your mechanic to have it fixed and to let them tune it

Pros: Good for someone who knows how to tune.
Cons: Not good forsomeone who doesnt know how to tune.

Good for those of you who know how to tune and like to experiment and tweak things. Bad for those of you who download the TX Stage maps and do not tune any further.

Pros: tunable, more maps, more power
Cons: expensive

i love it, it is easy, and lets the ecu do all the boring stuff like cold start, and then lets you play with all of the fun stuff, so you can make all the power! it can store so many maps, and you have no need to pay for a reflash, it just need a road tune or something, not a 200 buck relfash

Pros: Does everything you could possibly need.
Cons:

I am not an engine management person by nature this setup forces you to get much more involed with exacly whats goin on under the hood, not just bolting on new crap.
