Description: The IHI VF-22 Turbo is found on the older Subaru v3 WRX. With its significantly increased turbine housing, this turbo is capable of producing upwards of 320 whp. However because of a slightly older bearing design as well as the large turbine housing this turbo spools the latest out of the VF-series turbos. For this reason, we recommend this turbo for the suby owner that is looking for a high output turbo at a very affordable price.

Pros: huge top end, lag is not bad
Cons: older model

this turbo really can kick your ass, but everyone worries about the lag, the lag is nothing, i dont even notice it. the turbo spool is really loud, i like it!
the only problem is that it is older, so i have heard of people having theirs fail, but they are so cheap, that it wouldnt be that big of a deal just to replace it

Pros: Price, power
Cons: Old design

My first turbo upgrade for my WRX. Really liked it. Made great power with NO additional lag as can be seen in Sport Compact Car magazine. After about 10k miles, the turbo got out of balance and started making noise. I sent it to Turbo Specialists for repair in 2002, and have not seen it since.

Pros: Nice top end and mid range
Cons: install

So far this is a nice turbo with good top end and mid range. This is a lot more streetable than people say and for the price you can't beat it. The install was a pain at one point but after that everything worked itself out. I really haven't noticed that much lag and I'm still learning how this reacts and how it should be driven. Just make sure you get a good tune. My spool comes on around 2600rpms and peaks at 3600rpms. I'm running 18lbs of boost.
