Description:
|
Built specifically to minimize the weight while maintaining strength, the Superleggera’s multispoke design borrowed heavily from what O.Z.’s engineers learned in the development of the newest OZ Formula 1 wheels. Applying this experience, gained on today’s most advanced race cars, has resulted in an aluminum street wheel that is lighter than many magnesium ones. The Superleggera’s design underwent the most strenuous computer modeling and Finite Element Analysis of any wheel to date. O.Z. went on to utilize a special titanium enriched alloy for superior level strength, at its remarkably low weight. The production process was revised to not only incorporate heat treatment, but also a special shot peening technology borrowed from the aerospace industry. All this research and work has paid off handsomely with an alloy street wheel that tips the scales at a scant 5 kg in 15”, 7 kg in 17”, and 8 kg in 18”. Available in a satin titanium gray finish, there are also plans to produce a limited edition line of gloss white wheels with contrasting red lettering, this race inspired color scheme will give the Superleggera the race-ready it is entitled to wear proudly. The Superleggera is available in 15, 17, 18 and 19” diameters for a wide variety of vehicle applications.

I purchased the 18" OZ superleggera's about late june 2002 from 1010 tires.com
It's a nice wheel and a good design with a light weight and a good fit but the offset is a little more inset than i would like but a thousand times better than stock.
At about a year of owning the wheels and 25k miles later i started to notice the paint was wearing away like an 80's car hood. It wore away on the inside surface of the blades. However, the face of the blades and lip are fine. I made sure all the cleaners I used on the wheel were safe for painted wheels.
This is really bad quality and is not nearly what i expected out of a OZ wheel.
I will soon contact OZ about this problem and see what they say. I will keep you posted.

I haven't had the peeling problem as the person above, luckily. I have had mine for about a year and have had no problems, thus far. I like the looks and they are really easy to clean. They have an excellent weight for their size. Try not to use cleaning products on these or any other wheels. I just use a rag when I wash my car and they look brand new. This may help from any damage that may occur from chemicals.

Semi-fragile for punishing city roads

The 17\"s are great wheels. About 16lbs, and 7\" wide so you don\'t have to worry about rubbing on lowered vehicles with wide tires.
I am a bit concerned that these wouldn\'t hold up well to a punishing trip through some bigger potholes, but they\'ve done great so far (~30k miles in the SF Bay area).
They are hard to clean, but aren\'t all nice wheels?

I got gold, and they look hella nice. I bought them used and had some problems, but not exactly wheels fault. I find them easy to clean (compared w/ OBS\'s stock). Considered SSR\'s but worried about strength, and I kno people who rally with these, so I figure they should be strong enough for me! Gold pwnes

OZ name, great looks, light weight
|
|
Cons:

fragile, paint/powder coat flaking @ 36K miles

I am a huge fan of OZ wheels, however I was greatly disapointed in the quality put into these monoblock wheels. The anthracite paint has been stained on 3 of the wheels, and is flaking off the fourth. I was EXTREMELY anal about the care of these wheels with regard to cleanliness as well as road hazards, yet I still managed to have two bent wheels. This may have taught me not to EVER buy cast aluminum wheels ever again. Hind sight, the OZ Superleggera III\'s would have been a better choice, or another forged wheel.

I bought the 18x8\'s and they look a lot better in person. As for cleaning I just use dish soap since it cuts through grease and dirt and the water streams off without spots. Easy to clean and I\'ve got lots of compliments.
