Would you recommend the product? Yes |
Price you paid?: $292.00
| Rating: 8
Pros:
Great value for the price. Strong amp. Clear screen.
Cons:
Poor documentation.
It's rated at 4x45w and it's really strong. My Blaupunkt Austin was rated at 4x50w (4x25w RMS) and this one is way stronger. The screen isn't motorized but pulls out reasonably smooth and the mechanism feels solid. The screen clarity is really nice, especially for a complete setup under $292 shipped.
The only real issues I had with the install was:
The stereo dash surround trim needed to be trimmed slightly to clear the components, but I expected that might happen.
The four wires from the TFT monitor are BLK, YLW, RED, and GRN (backup camera) . Hooked up the wires and soldered them to the wiring harness....only to find the TFT monitor is lit up even without the key (it's getting constant 12v power). Swapped the red and yellow wires and it works fine now. Obviously the jack isn't pinned out correctly. A bit "dodgie" but not a deal breaker. The actual DVD headunit didn't have that problem.
I'd recommend these Hong Kong DVD/TFT combo units to anyone who wants to play movies in the car and have the flexibility of playing MP3 through the front USB or SD/MMC slot + backup camera option among other features unheard of in any deck you'll find here in the US for the same price range.
Now I'm sure there is something to the "you get what you pay for" addage. I bought higher resolution TFT: 3xRGB - 2400 (H) x 480 (V). I figured if I was going to risk on a cheap monitor...might as well get a hi-res one to curb disappointment. It's no Kenwood or Alpine, but For the short time I'll keep this deck (1-2 years), $292-shipped is a great value. Can't touch anything similar in the US for the same price-range.
Two more things to note for those interested in these:
The user guide or manual are in Engrish and not exactly well documented like we are accustomed to here in the US. If you are the least bit saavy with how stuff works, it shouldn't be a problem.
The user interface for the TFT monitor is more like an ATARI 2600 graphics wise (or lack there of graphics). For $100-TFT screen what do you expect. If you want slick GUI's you'd be better of spending the big $$$ ($800-1500) for a made-for-USA engineered unit.
...and oh yes, no need to disable the e-brake thing because there is no such prevention mechanism here. Just works, parked or not.
