what are the widest 18" rim and tires for 2004 STI

I am trying to give my sti the time attack look. What is the widest 18" rim tire combo I can fit under stock fenders? What about if I roll the wheel wells? Thank you.

Jeff

18x9.5 +35 with a slight stretch of the tire...some rolling would be good if you wanna go pretty low...coilovers only for this setup

I'd recommend 17's...17x9 or 9.5 +35 is very common in japan with 255/40/17 tires

Thanks for your reply. I thought I'd go with the 18X9.5's but wanted to make sure they'd fit first. Thanks.

an 18x9.5 is going to require a fair amount of camber, fender rolling and other fun stuff. To really make it fit, make sure to have camber plates front AND rear as well as adjustable rear lateral links. The rear actually has less room than the front, so by using rear camber plates, you can pull in the top of the wheel a buchn, and then pull in the bottom a little with the lateral links. The front will jsut need to be rolled quite a bit. There are plenty of time attack cars running a 9.5 with 275 tire. You have to pound in the inside of the rear fender walls a little too for this which is quite easy.

18x9,255/35(same dia. as stock tire),rear lip folded up or cut off-i use 44mm,but i have learned that wheel makers don't measure exactly the same and rear offset is critical-2mm matters here

If you're going for a time attack look then your wheels and tires WILL extend beyond the fenders. James Elterman runs a 10" CCW wheel in his cusco STi with a 275 tire.

I personally am hoping to get 17x10.5 ccw classics with 315s for next season.

This is a bit misleading. Time Attack does not mean optimal is sticking out. Most that run wheels sticking out do auto-x and run higher suspension. Most time attackers do not run this kind of setup and the heavy g loads can force contact and the higher ride height pays a penalty. On time attack, you will general run the most tore that can fit in the wells (altered or not), and may run a widebdy or modified fenders. With some trickery, you can sneak in a 9.5 wide wheel with 275 tires into a basically stock body sti. Anything beyond that, and you really should have wide fenders.

As for the +35 offsett question yes, it will clear the calipers fine. That is a fairly aggressive offset for an STI and offers way more clearance than required

depends on the wheel. someone test fit a set of work emotion cr kai in 17x9 +44 (specs which should clear brembos) and they didn't clear the brembos on an 05. a 10mm spacer allowed the spokes to clear but only by a couple mm's, even less than that of the stock bbs.

fitted 18x9.5 38mm offset WORK XT-7 clear brembo. definitely need some camber adjustment.

with the car jack up, front stick out around 1/2" and rear stick out around 1/4".

not much work involved to make it work.

Doing a GB on that wheel too ... in case you are interested.
