After starting my 02 WRX after a week away (the car was garaged) I noticed what sounded like a pad "draggin" on the RR, with an increase of noise at low speed and light braking. After 20-30 minutes on the road (avg speed: 55-65) and a couple of solid brake applications the noise was gone. Impression: a sticking caliper and/or rust on the disk. Today, after starting out after a generous rain storm, no noise. I often get some rub noise when backing, which goes quickly. Again, I thinks it's just rust. Therefore: are there rotors which are more rust resistant? Why would a caliper not fully release? My 02 has just 22K with no mods or racing, and (mostly) non-racing stops. pm if you wish, to: bytwerksjpf@optonline.net Thanks

A caliper may not release because of a malfunction in the piston or in rare instances you brake so hard it gets so hot it gets stuck out.
