Synthetic Oil question

Hey. I just got my 02 WRX about a week ago, and it has 50k miles on it (high for an 02 I know, but I gather it was mostly highway miles...dont know for sure, bought it as a trade in from a dealer so I didnt know the previous owner) And as such, right now I dont know what kind of oil is in there, regular or synthetic. But I was thinking that next time I get the oil changed, I'd like them to just flush everything out and put some synthetic in it...but, is 50k too many miles on the engine to switch to synthetic? (assuming it has regular oil now) Ive heard it can be bad to switch to synthetic if your cars been running regular oil for so many miles...what do you think?

Shouldn't be a problem - go ahead and do the switch! (no need to flush the system - just have them put synthetic in there when they refill) - it's only an issue in cars which are older, haven't been maintained well (from a changing the oil point of view), and have a ton of crud built up.
