STi type S - Rumor
Long time reader, first time posting...
A good friend of mine and I both have wrx's, and he's looking at upgrading to an STi, so he went checked them out over the weekend. What he heard from the dealer, was that there's a rumor of Subaru bringing 3000 STi's to the US next year, along with 1000 Type S models.
Since I've only heard of the type RA Sti, I took this information with a grain of salt but I'm curious if anyone has heard this same rumor...

the "stipped down" version you're referring to would be the spec-c..........i don't think they would be dumb enough to confuse the line any more than they need to with more names.
and maybe they teamed up with acura before?

Car Info: 1998 Subaru Legacy L 5-speed
If it were truly coming out within any reasonable amount of time, SOA would most likely anounce it publically. Tell your friend to just get the STI and enjoy it.

Yeah right. Subaru would never confuse anyone with names. Like the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type RA Spec-C. That's not confusing.

And after the original post again, i am reminded of when i heard a salesperson at stevens creek tell me that the STi will be an NA V6 =P He did guess right on 300hp though

I decided to call the dealer where this rumor started, and all I can say is that, it is just that. A rumor. I gather the salespeople heard a rumor (who knows where it started) that Subaru was thinking about bringing in 1000 Sti's with 330 HP.
I know Mitsubishi has been talking about a 'hotter' version (read: Ralliart) of the Evo, to pony up to STi. Either fact or fiction, I think it's great that the domestic US is finally getting with the "Pony Wars" that everyone else around the World has been enjoying for years. The time of the dinasours (Mustang / Camaro) is over, and the new battle has started...

The Ralliart version of the Lancer is designed to bridge the gap between the high end Evo and the low end model (RS?). It isn't a "hotter" version of the Evo. Mitsubishi is introducing it because many people can't afford an Evo and want something with a little more pep than the base model. It is designed to be a counterpart to the standard WRX which fallst between the STi and the RS. I saw a segment on it this past weekend on Car and Driver TV on the Spike Network.

Right you are about the current models, but Ralliart has does some amazing work on past Evo models in Britain. When I was inverstigating the Evo 7, I found several, Ralliart dealers in the UK, who only focused on the Evo's. I would lay odds that this is just the first introduction of the Ralliart name to the States...

uh, they arent talking about the watered down ralliart, you havent heard of the Lancer EVO RS? read the latest Car and Driver
According to Car and Driver:
No sound-deadening material
No ABS
No HID headlamps
No A/C
No stereo
No rear-wiper
No vanity mirrors
No power windows
No rear wing
Front helical limited-slip (in place of the usual US Evo's open diff)
Stiffening bar in the trunk
Black mirrors
Black door handles
The car will cost about $26,000 and weigh about 150 lbs less than a standard Evo. They plan to sell about 700 in the US each year.

They only got rid of 150 lbs with all that crap? I guess the diff makes up for most of the weight lost. Do you know if the back window is glass or if its a more lightweight material?
