How often should you get your differential fluid changed?

Book says plugs need to be replaced at 60K on the WRX.

Also only says to check Automatic Transmission fluid and Differential fluids. I have a manual so you are saying I should hoave them both checked and replaced??? I am going by the book and asked the dealer to check them but not replace them if not needed.

dude.. its a very easy job.. just jack up the car drain the trans and diff fluids and fill em back up.. scoobymods.com is a great place to look (step by step instructions).. the only pia is filling up the trans fluid again u need a funnel that can bend the dipstick is under the passenger side of the intercooler.. shoudl take you mor ethan an hour to do both.. even if u are not mechanicially inclined.
p.s if u take stuff to the dealer they will; say u needed it changed just to make a couple bucks off you .. ALL DEALERS ARE SHADY.. well 90% of em sometimes u get lucky and find a good one..

good luck with whatever you do

How come the service manual does not tell you to replace these fliuds only to check them at 30K????

Seems liek if you were supposed to replace them the service book would say that.

I don't typically check my fluids. I keep current on my oil changes and hae never looked at my differential fluid.

Can nto remember the last time I checked the tranny fluid either. IT is a manual but I guess I never did it cause I never thought to.

Without being too uptight about this: change more frequently when the car has less miles- the major wear comes early, and it is good to get rid of the residue, metal bits and such, early on. After 50K or so, less often, is my motto. Watch for signs of leaks. If ANY, get thee to a tranny expert for evaluation. If you go by the book, keep your receipts or a good personal log, and you will maintain your warranty for its full life (always a good idea, in my book).
