Let's look at this from a different angle -- perhaps, like the clutch, the motor mounts are an intentional fail point used to absorb some critical amount of energy and thus save some more important and expensive part of the driveline. It is definitely cheaper and easier to replace a clutch than a gearset, so Subaru uses fairly weak organic clutches (no carbon-fiber 3-puck racing clutch) for even a 300hp car. Perhaps the motor mounts are designed to also fail under really serious stress and save someone from a driveline repair; after all, swapping out the motor mount takes two jacks and 20 minutes of time, but tranny work can take weeks.

I like your point of view Krinkov and meilers. That makes a little more sense. I am still going to wait a while and find out all of the info before making a choice. For all we know maybe some were abusing and some just had bad luck(which is very possible).

It is funny that you mentioned the black box on the Chevy Z06. I knew of a claim with a woman who said she parked her vehicle out in the parking lot and somebody struck it when she was inside shopping. We pulled the black box on her Chevy Tahoe and the box said she was travelling about 55 mph when the impact occurred!!! Not like we couldn't tell by the front end being ripped off at a certain angle. It just backed what we thought.

I don't launch, or downshift fast. I've been pretty conservative when it comes to daily driving. However, I do occasionally get on it when getting on the freeway late at night.. What about backroad driving (ie. canyon runs) will the plastic ones hold up?

I see someone has already located the engine mount problem. I have had an on going problem for a month now with an irritating rattle and I have taken it 4 times to get checked out and nothing. Well today I had an appt with the regional service rep. and he found a cracked motor mount. I have fallen victim to the cheap *** motor mount. The service rep told me that it's not to common and he's only seen one so far in his area but to solve this problem they go back to the 2005 sti motor mounts and since they come in a pair both are replaced. 5000 miles on it and a broken mount. Pretty sad! However if you drive normal I think this problem could be avoided. I recall one time I launched pretty hard and the whole car shook....I'm pretty sure thats when the mount cracked.

Maybe it was to match their plastic cams.

Well I just took my 06 sti to the dealership. The tranny and moter mounts are all broken. I don't know how that happened. Well its all under warranty. They are replacing them with mounts with 05 sti mounts. the only bad thing is they won't get the parts in for 2 weeks. they are coming over on a boat from japan that leaves at the sometime this weeks.
