how many watts in stock radio...
#4
None of the above. Those "wattage" #'s are marketing BS and don't reflect the actual RMS output that you can get with any reasonable amount of distortion. It's really a lot less.
I originally had the stock HU and sub, and found the power to be lacking especially when driving with the windows down. I still have the sub, but went with an aftermarket HU with more power output and far better sound and features.

It Sucks
I had a sub and amp package in my RS and it wasn't worth what they had listed on the sticker that's for sure...it had no power and the quality was lacking...save yourself the money and put it into a nice aftermarket system...it's a much better place to spend the money

Car Info: 2005 WR blue WRX w/ premium package
so my question is still not answered. when another company advertises a 360 watt bose system, i know exactly what it means. i don't care if its a marketing claim or what. what do the 04 and 05 wrx's claim then? i know it's low, but what is it?

Power for stock stereo
I just swapped out the crappy stock speakers for the "upgraded" speakers and subwoofer. The sound is worlds better, but still not what it could be with a full aftermarket replacement. Here is what I learned:
The stock front speakers are marked "30W Max", so I assume that means 30W peak power handling. There is no mention of RMS power or any other stats.
The stock rear speakers are marked "15W Max".
The upgraded fronts and rears are all marked "30W Max".
Given all of this, I would say the power could be no more than 100W = 25W x 4 channels peak. It is probably less than that.
The subwoofer comes with an amp that has 120 Watts peak power.
I'll post any more information as I learn it. I hope this helps.

assuming 8 watts per channel. and you have 4 channels...
why is that so important?
what's important is the damn thing sounds good.
only when i start competing in IASCA events will i start counting watts again... lol...
when i was testdriving wrx in 01, one of things i wanted to see was how well the "upgraded" system sounded like.
so i brought my cartridge of test CDs and demo CDs.
i spend about 15-20 minutes sitting in a wrx with it.
my end result is that it didnt have enough of the dynamic range i was used to (sony electronics, soundstream REF series amps, MB quart components and a single JL sub).
i told them thanks, but no thanks and picked the wrx with the "stock" system.
i bet that 360 watt bose system is MAX power. bose is famous... infamous for not really printing numbers about their systems.

In a thread months ago i open my stock radio and found information about the power output.

My Forester is probably similar.
My guess will be 25W x4 Max. Works out to be less than 10 W per channel. Not much power. It is probably measured at 1% @ 1kHz.
I did make a project for amp and speaker upgrade.
